Dolton, Illinois, is in turmoil as a recent investigation into the village's finances has revealed a staggering $3.65 million debt. Mayor Tiffany Henyard, who stands accused of misusing taxpayer money, has been notably absent since the report surfaced. The probe, led by former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, has uncovered troubling financial mismanagement, including out-of-control credit card spending and lavish expenses on self-promoting billboards, luxurious dinners, and trips.

Reporter Tara Molina has been on the case, attempting to track down Mayor Henyard, only to find her office empty and no responses to repeated interview requests. This absence comes on the heels of a heated community meeting where Lightfoot presented her findings. The report disclosed that, as of May 31, the village's general fund balance was negative $3.65 million. Lightfoot, brought in by concerned trustees, highlighted numerous questionable expenses, such as $40,000 spent on Amazon purchases in a single day with no accounting for the money.

Trustee Brittney Norwood had previously voiced concerns to CBS News Chicago back in February, revealing that trustees were denied access to requested bank statements, leaving the community in the dark about the village's financial health. Lightfoot's investigation also flagged exorbitant police overtime payments, with two officers racking up six-figure sums purely from overtime. The situation escalated with the recent firing of Deputy Chief Lewis Lacey, adding to the growing list of controversies.

The unfolding scandal has left Dolton residents demanding answers and accountability. The full extent of the financial mismanagement is yet to be determined, but Lightfoot's limited examination has already painted a dire picture for the village's future.
