An intriguing image circulating on Reddit has sparked a lively debate among users, drawing attention to a perplexing signage contradiction at a store entrance. The image, titled "Well is it, or not?", showcases the inside view of a store with glass doors and windows. Prominently displayed at the top center of the door frame is a red, illuminated "EXIT" sign, suggesting that the door is meant for exiting the premises. However, adding to the confusion is a bold paper sign attached to the door that reads, "NOT AN EXIT!"

The contrasting signals have led to a flurry of comments, with some users attempting to explain the situation while others revel in its absurdity. One user pointed out, "Exit signs are for fire escape. It doesn’t mean it’s a common exit to be used all the time," highlighting the possibility that the sign is meant for emergency purposes. Another user humorously added, "Fire Nation Law prescribes it as an exit, no matter how much the Earth Kingdom protests!"

The conversation took a whimsical turn with comments like "Schrödinger's exit," alluding to the famous thought experiment by Erwin Schrödinger, which perfectly encapsulates the duality of the door’s purpose. A brick disagrees with the paper sign," remarked another user, poking fun at the seemingly contradictory messages.

One user shared a personal anecdote, saying, "I was at a grocery store yesterday that has a permanent sign at what looks like their front door that says, 'EXIT ONLY: PLEASE USE OTHER ENTRANCE,' but they should have covered up the sign by the other door." This comment underscores the commonality of confusing signage in public spaces and the minor frustrations it can cause.

Despite the humorous tone of many comments, some users provided practical suggestions. "Simply replace the paper sign with one that says 'emergency exit only,'" recommended a user, providing a straightforward solution to the confusion.

The image, showing the numbers "1230" on the glass door, likely the store's street address, and the visible parking lot outside, has resonated with many for its relatable scenario. The blue sky with scattered clouds and the greenery in the background add a touch of serenity to the otherwise perplexing scene, while the small potted plant with red flowers near the entrance adds a hint of charm.

The Reddit post "Well is it, or not?" has not only entertained but also prompted discussions about the clarity and purpose of public signage. Whether it's deemed an exit or not, the image serves as a humorous reminder of the minor yet amusing contradictions encountered in everyday life.

Exit signs are for fire escape. It doesn’t mean it’s a common exit to be used all the time. In every building I do, I need to do a walkthrough with the local fire department, who can request additional exit signs, and emergency lights. A building is not granted occupancy until the fire department is satisfied, among other things.

I was at a grocery store yesterday that has a permanent sign at what looks like their front door that says, "EXOT ONLY: PLEASE USE OTHER ENTRANCE =>" And then when you walked around thr building to the actual entrance on the side, there was a paper sign on the locked door that said, "USE OTHER ENTRANCE <="...but they should have covered up the sign by the other door. A minor annoyance, I admit, but an annoyance just the same.

Funny but honestly this is reasonable. For emergency/fire purposes, it is clearly identified as an exit. However, management wants it to not be used and that's fine too.
