A recent post on Reddit has ignited a wave of reactions after an image surfaced showing a small, brown paper wasp nest nestled under the side mirror of a light blue vehicle. The vehicle's mirror, covered in dirt and grime, underscores the perfect hiding spot for these unwelcome guests. The nest, spherical and bumpy, appears to be made from a papery material and is a chilling reminder of how nature can find its way into the most unexpected places.

Reddit users were quick to share their own unsettling experiences with wasps invading their vehicles. One user commented, "Sounds like someone needs to use the vehicle more often," shedding light on how infrequent vehicle use can lead to such surprises. Another user remarked, “I’m still taking stock of all the horrible places that these miserable things make home in that I’ve seen in this sub. To add to the current list of: couch, tool bag, outside car mirror, car door handle, on railing and now inside of a car gas door…”

The discovery of this nest has sparked a mix of humor and concern among the Reddit community. A user humorously suggested, “Hornets building tolerance living in the very thing used to kill them .. Chad hornets,” while another took a more drastic approach, “Soak it with gasoline and burn it.”

A particularly dramatic comment predicted a dire future, “Clearly gassing them doesn't work. They've probably evolved to be semi-aquatic and now live inside your gas tank. Eventually they'll become fireproof. They'll be able to spit acid to burn through walls and vault doors. We're all pretty much f***ed.”

Others shared practical advice and personal anecdotes. One user mentioned, “I heard that Windex keeps them away,” while another shared their own summer battles with wasps, “I have the same problem every summer. I normally just knock out the at-the-time empty nest and go about my gas pumping. However last time I went to get gas it still had an occupant.”

This unexpected discovery has certainly added a new dimension to the ongoing dialogue about dealing with wasps. Whether through humor, practical advice, or shared fears, the Reddit community has come together to commiserate over this new and unnerving find. For anyone with a seldom-used vehicle, it might be worth checking those side mirrors more often – a new fear has indeed been unlocked.

My truck sat for 6 months. I had a nest in both side mirrors, engine compartment, passenger door, driver door, gas door, and in rear bumper.

I have the same problem every summer. I normally just knock out the at-the-time empty nest and go about my gas pumping. However last time I went to get gas it still had an occupant. I looked seriously crazy trying to battle that stupid bug while at the gas pump. When I got home I sprayed some wasp repellent on the inside and haven't seen any since.

I had a wasp at work build a nest in my mirror. At home the nest was empty. At work there would be like 2-3 going in and out.
