In an amusing turn of events, an image circulating on Reddit showcases the perplexity faced by an IT department when marketing presented them with faulty promotional DVDs. The image features an animated GIF of someone holding a compact disc (CD) with their left hand, flipping it to reveal its shiny, reflective surface. The CD, branded with the name **Verbatim**, emits a spectrum of colors as it moves, a sight familiar to many who have used these recording media types.

The setting appears to be on a wooden desk, with a white box and part of a computer monitor visible in the background. This simple yet nostalgic image has sparked a series of humorous and nostalgic comments from Reddit users, reminiscing about the days when CDs and DVDs were the primary means of data storage and distribution.

One user quipped, "Who's still burning DVD's?" highlighting the outdated nature of the technology. Another user humorously suggested, "You need to flip it twice to get to the back. It is made with USB technology," poking fun at the confusion surrounding the non-functional DVDs.

The comments continued with another user asking, "Is this post from 2007?" and another reminiscing about **LightScribe**, a technology that made labeling discs easier but required special drives and discs, leading to limited adoption.

The conversation took a more reflective tone with a user expressing their frustration, "The most frustrating part about this is recognizing being so old that this mistake seems obvious." This sentiment was echoed by another user who confirmed, "Sorry for asking the obvious but I am only 95% sure I got it right, did they put the sticker on the wrong side?"

In a nod to modern technology, one user pointed out, "A modern desktop computer or laptop or notebook even server doesn't provide a DVD reader," to which another humorously responded, "Send them a fax with the explanation."

Among the comments, there were mentions of the **Czech Hydrometeorological Institute** (ČHMÚ), with details about groundwater quality monitoring in Eastern Bohemia for 2023-2024, adding a layer of specific context to the image.

The image and its accompanying comments serve as a light-hearted reminder of how far technology has come and the occasional challenges of keeping up with its rapid evolution. Whether it's a simple case of placing a sticker on the wrong side or the obsolescence of DVD technology, this Reddit post provides a delightful glimpse into the everyday quirks of IT and marketing departments.

For those feeling nostalgic, the image of the **Verbatim** CD and the lively discussion it sparked is a trip down memory lane, recalling the days of burning party mix CDs on Windows 98 PCs with music downloaded from Limewire and BearShare. While some may see this as a sign of technological progress, others might just feel a little bit older.

Anyone remember [LightScribe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightScribe)? Made labeling so much easier, but since it required special drives and discs I don't think there was much adoption.

As a guy who's in IT myself, I see nothing wrong with this, it must be a PC/burn issue. Tell them to burn more and try again. :D

"How can we still use them for promotion? Oh! Quick, make a post about them!"
