In a world filled with mundane technical manuals and dry instructions, a recent post on Reddit has taken the internet by storm. The image showcases a close-up of a printed page detailing the steps on how to use a drywall sander. While the steps are mostly straightforward, it's step one that has everyone talking—and laughing.

**USING THE DRYWALL SANDER**

1. Talk to your drywall and explain what's about to happen to make sure it’s properly prepared.

2. Hold the sander firmly with two hands before starting. Make sure the sander is clear of the work surface to avoid kickback.

3. Press down the trigger lock button (Fig. 4 - 2), and then press the trigger (Fig. 4 - 3) to switch ON the tool. You can press down the trigger lock button again to lock the trigger ON for continuous use.

4. Let the sanding disc come to full speed before applying it onto the workpiece.

5. During sanding operation, do not press the sander too hard to avoid overloading. Use proper pressure to achieve the best results. If the machine slows or bogs down, reduce the applied pressure.

6. Once the sanding task has been completed, turn OFF the sander by releasing the trigger. If the sander has been locked ON, press down the lock button and trigger to release them, and your tool will turn OFF. Wait for the base pad to stop rotating before setting the tool down.

The immediate reaction from Reddit users was nothing short of comedic gold. One user, a technical writer, quipped, "I'm a technical writer and sometimes we throw in things like this because it's funny and because we constantly hear that no one ever reads this stuff." Another user humorously noted, "It's important you give your drywall consent first."

The laughter didn't stop there. One commenter brilliantly added, "0: Make sure it’s dry. Otherwise you’re just talking to a regular wall." Adding to the hilarity, another user pointed out a typo in step three, saying, "Also step 3 says 'tigger' lock, makes sure the sander doesn't bounce away lol."

The idea of personifying drywall has become an instant hit. Comments ranged from "Where is the step wherein you reassure the drywall that it did a good job...unless, of course, it didn't" to "Consent matters. How would you feel if some goon just ran up and started roughing you up for no apparent reason? When all you've done is try to be supportive and insulate them from the cold cruel world. The injustice of it all I tell ya."

One user even misread the header initially, thinking it said "Drywall Slander," and tried to make sense of it as a self-help technique involving talking negatively to one's wall. This misreading only added to the layer of humor surrounding the post.

In the sea of comments, the importance of enthusiastic consent was a recurring theme. "Always get enthusiastic consent from your drywall," said one commenter, while another added, "Step 0. Apologize to your drywall for doing such a sloppy job with the mud that you need to use a power sander."

The image initially seemed like a regular step-by-step guide, but thanks to the ingenious and humorous responses from the Reddit community, it has become a viral sensation. This serves as a reminder that even the most mundane tasks can become sources of joy and laughter with a little creativity and a good sense of humor.

Well this was made much more confusing by my misreading the header as "Drywall Slander", and my trying to quickly fill in the blanks with this being a self-help technique involving talking s*** to your wall. But yeah, good first step!

Post headlines like that make me think "Ah yes that's what dead internet theory is about"

It's basically rubber duck debugging. Preps you for the task at hand.
