Every once in a while, it becomes abundantly clear why making and maintaining friendships can be such a challenge. A viral Imgur video titled "Every once in a while" captures this sentiment perfectly. The video features a person reflecting on why they don't have many friends, citing the "stupid stuff that comes out of people's faces" as a significant deterrent.

This relatable topic has struck a chord with many viewers, who shared their thoughts and experiences in the comments section. One user nostalgically recalls leaving their hometown in the "late Pleistocene" era due to the unbearable nature of the people they knew. They describe a period where they tolerated others to the point of exhaustion, only to realize that they were merely pretending to like them.

Another commenter emphasizes the importance of being selective with friendships, stating that it's completely okay to be a loner and to choose friends carefully. They share their own experience of cutting off toxic people, despite the difficulty of doing so.

The video also prompted a humorous self-reflection from a user who admitted that sometimes the "stupid stuff" doesn't just come from others but from themselves too. This self-awareness resonates with many, as others chime in, agreeing with the sentiment and sharing their own similar experiences.

One comment highlights a social observation, noting that most people have only one to three true friends, while everyone else is just an acquaintance. True friends, according to this user, don't even need constant communication to maintain their bond.

The theme of quality over quantity in friendships is echoed by another user, who asserts that having a few good friends is far better than dealing with many who might drive one crazy. This sentiment is supported by someone who relates more to enjoying a good book than wasting time with people they don't like.

Another user shares a touching perspective, valuing their friends as precious gems amidst a sea of "self-absorbed, delusional idiots." They express their willingness to "herd cats" if it means keeping their valuable friendships intact.

The conversation also touches on the distrust that can develop from past experiences, with one person admitting that their efforts to trust others have often backfired, leading to significant losses.

Despite the varied experiences and perspectives, the underlying message remains clear: friendships are complex and sometimes challenging, but the value of genuine connections makes the effort worthwhile. This Imgur video and the subsequent discussion serve as a reminder that it's perfectly normal to be selective with friends and that quality always outweighs quantity in matters of the heart.

For those struggling with friendships, this video and its comments offer a comforting sense of solidarity. The shared experiences and reflections highlight that many people grapple with similar issues and that it's okay to prioritize one's own peace and well-being in the quest for meaningful relationships.

I left my home town sometime back in the late Pleistocene because of the number of people who I just didn't want to deal with anymore, that I had at one point or another, simply put up with for long enough that they thought I liked them when it was actually all I could do not to run screaming from the room more than half the time. It's 100% OK to be a loner, to pick your friends carefully and stick with people who don't drive ya bonkers. I've had to cut people off for being toxic. I hated that.

I once met somebody at a party, and within two sentences, I was confident that I knew everything I ever wanted to know about them. Then I gave some consideration to how many people thought the exact same thing about me.

Every once in a while I wonder why I don't have many friends, and then I hear the stupid s*** that comes out of my face, and then I get it.

Nobody has more the one to three friends. Everybody else is just somebody we more or less know. Real friends though don't even have to talk to each other.

That's so relatable, I also substitute 'face' for 'mouth' wherever possible.
