In a heart-stopping video that has quickly gone viral, a truck driver narrowly escapes disaster on a treacherous stretch of Interstate 70 (I-70) in Colorado. The footage, captured by an alert bystander, shows the truck hurtling up a steep incline, its brakes failing to bring it to a stop. With every passing second, the tension builds as the truck gains speed, threatening to cause a catastrophic accident.

The video has sparked a flurry of reactions and concerns from viewers. One user commented, "Nice try! He just almost made it up that hill!" Another user pointed out, "Usually those ramps have loose gravel covering them to help slow down the truck as well. The weight helps the tires dig in, providing more resistance for stopping."

Interestingly, there were comments speculating on the frequency of runaway truck incidents on this particular ramp. One user humorously asked, "That runaway ramp gets trucked at least once a year. Sometimes once a month. Wait… was I a runaway ramp in college?!" Another user shared a tragic story, expressing frustration over a truck driver who was convicted and sentenced to an unusually long prison term for not utilizing a runaway ramp.

As the video continues, the truck reaches an astonishing height on the ramp, leaving spectators in awe. A user remarked, "It's almost like the ramp goes up that high for a reason..." The intensity of the situation is palpable, with viewers wondering how the truck will safely make its way down without any brakes. One user quipped, "Now that he has no brakes, how does he get down?"

Several comments shed light on the mechanics of truck control, highlighting the importance of transmission and gear selection. A user shared insights from their experience with a trucker, explaining, "In semis, it's not just about the brakes. The engine revs are limited, and the truck must be in the correct gear to control speed. If you miss shifting down before descending a hill, you end up with a runaway situation where the brakes won't stop it."

Despite the gravity of the situation, there were moments of levity in the comment section. One user humorously suggested, "Does he know he's supposed to take his foot off the gas?" Another user made a thought-provoking observation, "Our little monkey brains just can't comprehend forces or scale above a certain level. We drive like maniacs through neighborhoods where people walk, oblivious to the potential dangers."

As the video concludes, the truck's brakes are visibly damaged, likely due to overheating from the intense descent. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of proper vehicle maintenance and the risks associated with driving on steep inclines.

This gripping video and its accompanying comments have captivated viewers, sparking discussions about truck safety, the design of runaway ramps, and the responsibility of drivers. As the footage continues to circulate, it serves as a cautionary tale for drivers everywhere to remain vigilant and prepared for unexpected challenges on the road.

I still am absolutely f***ing upset that semi-recently(last three years?) a truck driver was convicted to something like 110 years in prison for not taking a run-away ramp while his truck was... if I remember right, either going too fast by far to the point where it'd clear it, or it was already in use and he'd have struck another... but in eiher case, the truck driver had a firm belief that he'd have died for doing it. And there was tragedy because he didn't, and that's awful...
