We've had soccer players as punters/kickers, there's a couple rugby guys as... RB and LB I think? Sumo linemen though... that would be sick

That’s quite impressive from both sides.

Next Sumo tournament is May 12th, you can stream the daily highlights of all the bouts on NHK world. It can be weirdly very engaging to follow once you start to see the strategy of it and recognize the insane strength of the wrestlers. Lotta muscle under the fat.

Years ago, while living in Japan, I attended a sumo exhibition tournament, one of the warm-ups for the four official yearly tournaments. I'm 6'6 and about 250, a big guy, especially for Japan. As it happened, my seat was directly behind the late, great Akebono, who was two inches taller than me and over double my weight. I felt like a sapling next to mountain, a very strange feeling for me.

I have always drunkenly thought.... If I was a team owner in the NFL....id load up the jet and head to Japan. Draft up 15 guys who maybe wanted a shot in the NFL that didn't make it to the level they wanted in sumo. Literally....6 plays in my book. Toss left HB slam outside left ( tackle guard gap ) HB slam inside ( guard center gap ) Same plays right Literally...get me 3 or 4 yard every down with just runs and burn em down. One missed tackle at the lb...and it's off to the races.

Would be curious to know who each of these guys are and how successful each one is in his sport. I would think a championship-level sumo wrestler would tend to beat a championship-level NFLer if the sport is sumo, and vice versa if it's football.

I love the respect and good humor at the end.

That’s Micah Parsons, he’s one hell of an athlete.

I think the sumo is holding back and not throwing, instead just letting him push, no?
