Wait, so what order are you supposed to read them in? Just got the colour of magic, the light fantastic, and equal rites. Only got them because of the watch tve show was awesome and wanted to read the books

Going to go against the grain and say the colour of magic and light fantastic are by a wide margin his weakest books. For the best Nights Watch and especially Thud! I've read every book here <3

I’ve been doing publication order. Just finished Night Watch.

"LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?" - Pratchett wrote some DEEP lines throughout those books. Especially Death has some very important stories. That quote above is my favorite, closely followed by the one about believing the little lies to prepare for the big ones - justice, duty, honor.

Terry Pratchett was an amazing person and world is a lesser place since his death

I feel charts like these just make the whole thing seem more daunting to potential readers. I'd keep it simple: it's a very loose series, where almost all the books can be read as standalones if you like. If you want to follow how the world develops throughout the series, just read it in publication order. Some find the first few installments a bit wobbly, so you can skip at least the first two. Or if there's a particular character/subseries you're interested in, start with that starting novel.

I started with Mort, didn't read colour of magic until maybe 6 or 7 books in and I'm very grateful, not the strongest book

I read the colour of magic when it was first published and is today the only book that has ever made me laugh out loud….. core memory…
