Cherrypicking the parts of the Bible that they like while ignoring the bits that they dont like is common practice.

Except Jesus repeatedly commanded everyone to spread the word and evangelize. It's almost like the Bible is a bunch of individual contradictory books that plagiarized material off each other.

The Bible doesn’t say not to share the gospel. In fact it very clearly says to do so. What Jesus was talking about were folks in those days (called the Pharisees) who made their faith public in order to increase social standing. Do some Christians still do that? Very much so. But this interpretation that spreading the gospel is wrong because it’s a public sharing of faith is completely off from a biblical standpoint.

Listen…the book means nothing to them. Evangelicals, and that is the religious right’s flavour of the day, are flat out encouraged to interpret the text personally (assuming they even read it). “It is whatever it means to you”…there is no gotcha moment, there is no reasoning and argumentation 101 logical victories, there is not enough proof in any scripture…they just want everything and anything on their terms and they are willing to use their interpretation god as a reason/proof.

"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly." - Matthew 6:5-6

Not listening to what JC said is what Christianity is all about. It literally wouldn't exist if it had obeyed his command to the disciples: “Don't go to the Gentiles."

If we are talking about the line I think we are talking about I think that was more about not praying to be seen. So you can totally pray in public for the sake of praying. But hey I'm generous in my translations of things.

it doesn't say those publicly sharing their faith will receive no reward in heaven, it says those who make a public display of being outwardly pious among their brothers and sisters receive their reward in full. in fact there are LOADS of scriptures that directly tell christians that in order to discharge their christian obligation they are required to share the message. seems even those who school the muppets who don't even read the good book need schooling on occasion.

Lets be honest, the bible is bs, there are thousands of translations or more, hundreds of versions or more. No remaining original texts, just copies written with the biases of the writers at that time. To cite one version or any of it as accurate makes no sense. Not that it matters as they just cherry pick what they want.
