This man is one of true heroes of the Vietnam klusterf***. Purportedly they now teach about this incident, and his unswerving morality at West Point. I hope it's trure.

In 1998, 30 years after the m****cre, Thompson and the two other members of his crew, Andreotta and Colburn, were awarded the Soldier's Medal (Andreotta posthumously), the United States Army's highest award for bravery not involving direct contact with the enemy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Thompson_Jr.

Meanwhile millions of trash wrote letters to Nixon to free the "American Hero" mass murderer Calley. Moral cowardice.

He’s a classic study in ethics classes inside and outside the military.

His picture hangs in my library/office/spare room thing. I put it there with Lincoln, Sherman, Malcom X, Tubman, Frederick Douglas, and John Brown. I think it’s a good fit.

Meanwhile, we've gone on to commit plenty of war crimes since. It infuriates me how many chickenhawk Boomers, who spent the Vietnam conflict hiding behind deferments, are super quick to send other people's kids into harm's way - and denouncing anyone who pushes for peace as an unpatriotic traitor.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

That is a TRUE patriot right there, Republicans. Not a draft-dodging sack of orange s***.

War is crazy, and especially that war. I’ve heard stories from relatives about both sides doing crazy things. I can’t imagine a bunch of teenagers getting drafted and having to go through it. On one hand, there were U.S. soldiers out of control. Killing whole villages of innocent people. Woman, children, everyone. On the other hand there were Vietnamese soldiers putting bombs on kids and sending them to the U.S. soldiers. I can’t come close to imagining making a choice like that. I know /1
