Did.....did you not ask about your wage/benefits/hours before accepting this "promotion"? Because you should have and have taken a couple days to consider it, before making a decision.

That's awesome, OP. Rooting for you.

Wage theft affects exempt employees at a huge rate. There really should be an overtime benchmark, same as hourly.

Inspiring story, glad it's book ended red.

Many moons ago I had an oilfield company that wanted to do this to me. Taking on pretty much any and every job I could get my hands on, along with the jump hours there were days I was billing out for 36 hours in the day. Giving that up for a salaried position I wouldn't even have made half, not even close.

Moral of the story in modern times: don’t get a promotion, get a different job. I’ve seen this story play out so many times it’s crazy. My rule is to stay in a position for at least 3 years though, then I start getting job offers to put on my boss’s desk and say “here’s what I’m worth. what are you going to do for me?” Had a coworker who did this every yearly review. Gotta be assertive (assertiveness training can help if you’re really agreeable).

This is the only reason I have turned down every management position offered. I make more with my overtime than most of the salaried management and I am not in charge of people. The last position offered, I told my boss I'd need $10,000 more than I'm currently making to even consider it. They did not get back to me.

Nice, congrats dude. It's some b******* how so many firms use 'salary' as an excuse to pay ppl a 40 hour paycheck for 70 hrs of work. Uhaul tried to pull that s*** on me years back when I worked for em during school, I told em to f*** right off w thier 'management ' offer. Real POS Co. to work for .

That happened to me when I worked in hospitality. Started off as a Front Desk agent and eventually became a Front Desk Manager….WORST decision of my life. I asked to be demoted but it was “frowned” upon and unheard of a decade ago. Luckily moved to a nice Mon-Fri reception job for more pay. Hotel management positions s***. Up to 60+ hours in the busy season and sometimes 6 days a week….NO OVERTIME

Sue your old employer for wage theft, if you were promote to a salaried position without a change of responsibilities you're probably not overtime exempt. @dealgood
