Amusing Stand-Up Comedy Reveals the Perils of Cheap Hotels in Indianapolis

In a recent stand-up comedy video titled "Cheap Hotels," a comedian shares a amusing yet cautionary tale about the perils of booking budget accommodations. During a gig in Indianapolis, the performer opted to pocket most of the $175 per diem provided by the comedy club by choosing the least expensive hotel. The result? An itchy case of bed bugs.

The comedian humorously recounts how the decision to save money led to an unforgettable experience with bed bugs, explaining that it took a week of cleaning and steaming to rid himself of the pests. Interestingly, he learned that only 50% of people are allergic to bed bugs, which means half of those affected might not even realize they're sharing their bed with the critters. This newfound knowledge led to a punchline about why Motel 6 leaves the light on.

Viewers of the video resonated with the story, sharing their own bed bug horror tales. One user recounted moving into an infested apartment that required living out of plastic tubs and folding furniture for six months. Another pointed out that bed bugs can be found not just in cheap hotels but also in expensive ones, as well as public places like airlines, movie theaters, and buses.

Fans of the comedian expressed their enjoyment of his material, with one user commenting, "This guy is great!" and another adding, "Your material always pops up in my Reddit feed and it is ALWAYS GOLD. Thank you for the laughs." Some even asked for show dates, tired of accidentally googling Mike Birbiglia instead.

Whether it's a long walk to a punchline or a lesson learned through laughter, this stand-up routine provides both entertainment and education on the unexpected hazards of booking cheap hotels. For those looking to avoid a similar fate, it might be wise to remember that sometimes, you get what you pay for.

Oh god you were serious. Wasn’t even a joke. Should have left the light on.

Can you remind me where to find your shows? I’m tired of accidentally googling Mike Birbiglia.

I moved into an apartment that was infested, it was a nightmare. They heat treated the place hoping to get rid of them, but concrete floors with carpet over them tend to not get so hot, so it didn't fully resolve the issue so I ended up taking matters into my own hands with mattress encasements, put the bed up on bed bug catchers ( essentially cups ) and spread some cimexa around the mattress, and then lived out of plastic tubs and folding chairs/tables for like 6 months until I was pretty sure I had won and then moved out. Took me like 2 years to feel comfortable in my own bed again.

I don’t know why you’re saying don’t book cheap hotels when you can get bed bugs from expensive hotels too. As well as airlines, movie theaters, buses, cabs/ubers, etc. any place that accommodates the public.

Solid, biting punchline!

It was a long walk to that motel 6 joke but by golly there was water in that well. And any joke that makes the crowd squirm in their seats and then laugh while teaching them something is a good one in my book.

I was renting once and got infested like 2 years after we moved in. Turns out, some birds had a nest in one of the eaves and that’s how we got them.
