A recent Reddit video featuring a humorous take on the high rent in New York City, particularly Brooklyn, has gone viral for its witty and relatable content. The video showcases a comedian who lives with his partner in Brooklyn and shares his unique perspective on how the high cost of living shapes their relationship dynamics.

The comedian begins by addressing the common complaints about high rent in New York City, but he flips the narrative by saying he actually likes it. He explains that the high rent makes couples more conflict-averse because neither partner can afford the place alone. This financial dependency, he jokes, resolves most of their battles.

In a hilariously candid moment, the comedian imagines a scenario where his partner, referred to as "Matthew," admits to cheating. Instead of reacting with anger, he humorously suggests he'd be open to discussing it and even asks for the other man's name and how soon he can move in. He concludes with the punchline, "I'm socially monogamous, but fiscally polyamorous," which has resonated deeply with viewers.

The comments section is filled with reactions ranging from laughter to shared experiences:

- "Fiscally polyamorous lmao"

- "I'm socially monogamous, but fiscally polyamorous cuts deep."

- "Fiscally Polyamorous is a great line!"

- "As funny as this is, it hurts how true it is. I too wouldn’t overreact because high rent is brutal."

- "Dude sounds like if Daniel Tosh had a baby with Anthony Jeselnik."

- "That punchline is great."

- "Slaves of New York."

- "Mutual economic exploitation: The ultimate equalizer."

Some users even shared personal stories echoing the video's theme. One user recounted their partner of nine years admitting infidelity just after Valentine's Day. Initially devastated, the user eventually decided to work things out due to the high cost of moving out. Later, after securing a better-paying job, they chose to part ways but remained friends.

Another user described a "situationship" where they had to live with their ex due to high rent, despite the emotional turmoil it caused. This sentiment of being trapped in a relationship or living arrangement due to financial constraints was a common thread in the comments.

Comparisons to well-known comedians were also prevalent. One user noted, "Who is this guy? I feel like I'm watching the child of Jim Gaffigan and Brian Regan." Another added, "Dude sounds amazingly like Daniel Tosh," while another remarked, "This guy looks like someone merged Will Ferrell and Adam DeVine together."

The video's punchline, "Fiscally polyamorous," has clearly struck a chord, with many viewers laughing out loud and even describing it as both sad and zany. The relatable humor and sharp wit have led some to speculate that the comedian could be a new member of the Saturday Night Live cast.

For anyone living in Brooklyn or dealing with high rent in a major city, this video offers a humorous yet poignant look at the financial pressures that shape modern relationships.

This s*** is just sad....I broke up with my current ex and because of high rent is, we live together again now.... Its f***ing brutal because she probably won't ever have those same feelings for me anymore which I competently understand. However, I guarantee if I were to start talking to another girl or bring one home, all hell would break loose, and she would act as if we are still together while simultaneously treating me like a random person who lives with her. S*** is both confusing and frustrating. I hate being in a situationship. I love my ex, and will always love her, but there is a reason I left in the first place, I would live alone, but I'm not going to justify working myself to death. So I'll have to deal with it until some things are paid off. Edit: also coming off a hernia surgery, I promised myself I would never work like that again. 40 hours a week at a laid back job with kids is the best. Not going to ever subject myself to mental torture again with these s*** jobs even if the pay is great. Edit: for those confused I don't have children, I work with them and they make my life infinitely happier
