The life of a nurse is often a blend of humor, heartbreak, and relentless hard work. A recent Reddit video titled "Daily life of a nurse" has gone viral, shedding light on the daily struggles and absurdities faced by nurses.

The video humorously yet poignantly depicts a nurse's day starting at 5 p.m. The day kicks off with self-doubt and questioning career choices. By 6 p.m., the nurse arrives at the hospital, only to be physically and verbally assaulted by a patient a minute later. The absurdity continues at 7 p.m. when a patient arrives with a World War I artillery shell lodged in his r*****, prompting an emergency call to the bomb squad.

The narrative takes a lighter turn when Dr. Schab****e, a notorious cardiologist known for hitting on female nurses, makes an appearance. His pickup line, “Nurse Kristen, are you my appendix? Because I want to take you out,” adds a touch of humor, although he's been married for 15 years.

At 9:30 p.m., the nurse gets a cardio workout, followed by a quick lunch at 10 p.m. The nurse participates in a TikTok dance next to a patient, savoring a few moments of joy amidst the chaos. However, the mood quickly shifts as the nurse informs the patient's family of his passing.

As midnight approaches, a quick nap is taken, only to be interrupted by another assault at 1:30 a.m. The nurse's mental health is severely impacted, prompting a conversation with the supervisor. The response? A dismissive remark about the nurse's health and a pizza party as a t***n of appreciation.

The comments on the video reflect a mix of humor and empathy. One user quipped, "Nap on the autopsy table, nice," while another asked, "Which episode of Scrubs is this?" The video resonates deeply with many, as one user noted, “We laugh, because the alternative is to start crying and never stop.”

A former hospital administrator confirmed the authenticity of the portrayal, stating, "This is silly, but very very true. Especially the part about the pizza." Another user, recognizing the nurse from a commercial, commented, "Is that Kristen Vaganos, from the Opzelura commercial?"

The conversation also delved into cultural differences in hospital attire, with a user from Finland questioning why nurses in the USA dress in their work clothes at home.

The video has prompted a broader discussion about the underappreciation of nurses. A user remarked, “A few days in hospital really opens your eyes to how underappreciated nurses are. Seems like an absolute nightmare of a job in the NHS.” Another related it to the struggles faced by primary school teachers.

Despite the humorous undertones, the video highlights the significant challenges nurses face daily. As one nurse commented, "You just described me. I’m a nurse and this is totally relatable and sad. We don’t get the appreciation we deserve."

In the end, while the job might come with its share of laughs and occasional perks like a daily pizza, the underlying message is clear: nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system, and they deserve far more recognition and support.

I dont get it how in usa you dress those clothes slready in home? In finland hospitals you change your clothes everyday and hospital provides them washed to you. Just asking, id inagine if there is higher risk for infections becouse you carry more bacterias from home to hospital enviroment?

The good thing is you almost never want or need to shop for nice clothes because you work 12 hrx 3 days / week, mostly wearing scrubs (the rest of the day you're sleeping or doing important daily tasks), the rest of your days off you're too tired to do anything. lol Kudos to lady nurses because y'all at least still smell and look good during shifts somehow.

Former hospital administrator here. This is hilarious, but very very true. Especially the part about the pizza. We regularly sent pizza instead of solving a single issue.
