Worked a body shop, asked one of the owners if I could take two weeks off to visit family, he said 'No problem!'. Came back and he said 'Where the hell were you for two weeks?' Then he fired me, got another job that same day at another shop that need a welder, painter and buffer. Perfect fit. The other owner 'Roy', called me and begged me to come back because nobody else in the shop could spray worth a damn. 'Sorry, I'm making more here. Talk to your partner about worker communication.'

There's a great book called How Women Rise. It's about how to get ahead in your career with an emphasis on issues women specifically tend to have. One thing that stuck with me after reading it is that we often do a lot of things simply because they need to be done & if we don't tell our boss about these things we are doing, then they will not know about it & them not knowing may negatively affect our future raises/promotions/etc. Be your own advocate & make sure you share info with your boss.

I left a job and took a 56 day road trip. When I got back, my old boss told me he had to hire two people to take my place. That's when he realized he done f***ed up!
