In a world where hustle culture often reigns supreme, Foyin's tweet, "if you don't pick a day to relax your body will pick it for you," has struck a chord with thousands. The tweet, posted on October 24, 2019, by user @foyinog, quickly went viral, amassing over 37.6K retweets and 118K likes. The sentiment behind the tweet is clear: self-care isn't just a luxury; it's a necessity.

The responses to Foyin's tweet reveal a broader conversation about the importance of taking time to rest. User @chadvortex shared a personal account, saying, "yea bud! I was on the grind nonstop for a few months until my body said haha watch THIS! and took me out of work for 3 weeks." This response highlights the physical toll that continuous work can take on an individual.

Another user, @rhube, added depth to the discussion by stating, "Sometimes, it will take the rest of your life. I can't stress this enough. I wish I could get through to everyone I know. If you try to organise and be productive with every minute of your day, eventually, your body will pull the rug out from under you in a dramatic fashion, and you may end up being able to do very little at all, in a world that has no sympathy for people who need to rest. So rest now. And work on making sure the people around you know it's OK to rest."

The tweet and its responses have resonated with many who have experienced burnout and stress from overworking. One commenter shared, "Dude, I've finally quit my abusive employer, and all I've wanted to do is sleep. The exhaustion and collapse from prolonged stress is REAL." Another wrote, "My mental stress builds up so much during the week, that I spend Saturday and Sunday in bed sleeping the entire day away."

These stories underscore the critical need for self-care and the importance of listening to one's body. The conversation extends to those who have faced more severe health issues due to stress, such as strokes, severe depression, and chronic illnesses. One user recounted, "Got carried out of one job and an ambulance having a stroke. Supervisor tried to give me c*** about calling in the next day. His boss did not question the interesting things I said to him before I hung up. I quit only a few years later."

The collective experiences shared in response to Foyin's tweet serve as a powerful reminder that rest and self-care are essential components of a healthy life. The overwhelming response to the tweet demonstrates that many people are struggling with the demands of modern life and are seeking validation and support in their efforts to prioritize their well-being.

Foyin's viral tweet has opened up a vital conversation about the importance of self-care. The stories shared by users like @chadvortex and @rhube highlight the real-life consequences of neglecting rest and emphasize the need for a cultural shift towards valuing personal well-being. Remember, taking time to relax isn't just beneficial; it's essential for a healthy, balanced life.

This is a lesson I really need to learn and yet somehow never do.

Why, in the honest to goodness sense, would someone try to be productive all the time? Even if it was just for you, it's not for you.

I got rear-ended on my motorcycle. I was not hurt but it f***ed up my bike big time. The person who hit me lost her s*** and felt SO bad. She said she was working too much and fell asleep at the wheel. She drove me to work actually after cuz my bike was f***ed. She was so distraught and said it was a wake up call for her, that she needed to take some time off. I think about her sometimes and hope she's okay and got some sleep.

My father and stepmother sent me $500a few months ago because they heard about me working extra IT on weekends and did it "because we love you." I thought about how this would free up all the weekends for a month and wept like a child.

This happened to me. Undiagnosed ADHD, PTSD and ASD, working at a job I never should have even tried, masking really hard, enjoying the buzz the stress gave me. Went great for a while, then one day I just couldn't do anything. At all. Both body and mind had shut down on me. I got extremely depressed, kept falling and dropping things, constant tremor, couldn't remember anything, couldn't even speak properly. and it was two years before I could function again. Listen to your body.

This is said like I don’t dream of the long sleep.

My mental stress builds up so much during the week, that I spend Saturday and Sunday in bed sleeping the entire day away. I just crash on the weekends as the mental fatigue takes hold from the stressful job and life in general. The constant rising cost of living (especially rent) has gotten to the point where I feel like I am struggling all the time, even if I'm not. And at least I don't have to deal with any of it when i'm asleep.

Don't tell us, tell the capitalist hellscape we call our current reality.
