A screenshot of a tweet by @richard_normal has taken the internet by storm, amassing a staggering 8.7 million views. The tweet, which reads, "i do not want to save to onedrive. i want to save to the documents folder. on my computer. that i have. in my house," has resonated with countless users who share similar frustrations with Microsoft's OneDrive prompts.

The tweet, posted by a user named Richard, has garnered significant engagement with 30,000 reposts and 1,200 quotes. The overwhelming response highlights a common grievance among Windows users who feel pestered by constant prompts to use OneDrive instead of their local storage.

One commenter exclaimed, "You haven't finished setting up your computer yet! B****, I've been using it for four years! It is done!" This sentiment is echoed by many who are tired of the relentless reminders to integrate OneDrive and other Microsoft services like Edge.

Another user humorously remarked, "How about OneDrive? No? Well, how about Edge????? No? Are you sure? Really? Like really really really sure? Huh? Huh?" This comment captures the persistent nature of these prompts, which some believe have crossed the line into user harassment.

The tweet has sparked a broader discussion on the ethics of large companies pushing their proprietary products. One user pointed out, "This tying in of OneDrive into all MS products is a pest and is primarily meant to keep you from exploring alternatives. It pesters you every day, every save-as attempt." This view suggests that the integration of OneDrive is more about limiting user choice than enhancing their experience.

A user from the IT sector shared an interesting perspective, noting that while OneDrive integration has reduced emergency file recovery requests, the service is still not welcome on personal devices. "Since we forced one drive with auto sign in, our requests for 'help I deleted this file h******** it's an emergency 16 pictures of my buthole I have to present to my boss' have gone to ZERO. But yeah, not on my home pc either."

For some, the constant prompts have been a catalyst for change. "This is the push I needed to switch to Linux," one user declared, highlighting the lengths to which people will go to avoid these intrusive notifications.

The tweet even touched on broader concerns about data control and storage. "They already took your CD/DVD drives, next you won't be able to buy a PC with a hard drive forcing you to use 'their' cloud where they will control your stuff," warned another user.

The frustration is palpable and widespread, as evidenced by the sheer volume of engagement and the passionate responses. Richard's tweet has clearly hit a nerve, raising important questions about user autonomy and the balance between convenience and control in the digital age.

Damn, I feel this in my bones. And it is a prime example on how big companies push their own products, IMHO illegally. This tying in of OneDrive into all MS products is a pest and is primarily meant to keep you from exploring alternatives. It pesters you every day, every save-as attempt. »Use our s***!« EVER G*****N TIME. There is no »No means no« any more. Just plain bugging the user until he finally gives in. I wonder when the EU finally puts a stop to that.

onedrive is one of maaaany things I disable on windows 10. And I'm sure it's only gotten worse with windows 11 and beyond...

The fact that you have to go through extra steps to set up Windows 11 if you dont want to be forced to sign into or create a microsoft account really grinds me too

So ... stupidly enough I work in IT. Since we forced one drive with auto sign in, our requests for "help I deleted this file h******** it's an emergency 16 pictures of my buthole I have to present to my boss" have gone to ZERO. But yeah, not on my home pc either.

Yeah but if they did that then they couldn't threaten to remove access to your documents if you don't pay them.
