A recent Facebook post has ignited a lively debate, humorously comparing the simplicity of electrical plugs to complex societal issues. The post features a meme that boldly states, "IT'S SIMPLE," accompanied by images of two types of electrical plugs. The left plug is labeled "MALE" with prongs sticking out, while the right plug is labeled "FEMALE" with holes to receive the prongs. The meme concludes with the statement, "NOT BOTH. NOT A 3RD OPTION. ANY QUESTIONS?"

This attempt at metaphor sparked a variety of reactions, primarily pointing out the oversimplification. One user humorously commented, "[laughs in Electrician]," highlighting how professionals in the field would find this comparison overly reductive. Another user added, "Not to mention that those two connectors are just the opposite ends of the same cord," emphasizing the nuanced complexity absent in the post's argument.

The discussion also touched on broader topics, with one individual recounting a sermon where the pastor mentioned, "The Bible specifically says God created the day and the night but says nothing about the dawn and the twilight." This comment aimed to illustrate that not everything is strictly binary.

Another commenter critiqued the metaphorical use of electrical components by stating, "Gender changers: the hottest of electrical components," humorously referring to actual devices used in electrical engineering. This sentiment was echoed by another user who remarked, "There are myriad devices literally called gender changers that exist for no other reasons than to moot that point."

The conversation took a deeper turn with some users questioning the relevance of comparing electrical plugs to human experiences. One user commented, "Even if there were only two kinds of electrical cord, why is this dude modeling his societal philosophy after extension cords?" Another added, "Electrical connections hold very little similarity to biology," pointing out the flaws in using such analogies.

Amidst the heated discussion, some users maintained a light-hearted tone. One person joked, "Ooh! Throw in the gender changers!" while another remarked, "Upvote in spirit... I'm not changing the 69." The debate also saw contributions from those frustrated by the argument, with one user saying, "Does anyone anywhere have an adequate explanation of why tf someone would give a s*** about someone else's gender journey?"

Ultimately, this Facebook post and the ensuing debate underscore the complexity of societal issues and the pitfalls of overly simplistic metaphors. The diverse reactions highlight the importance of nuanced understanding and respectful dialogue in addressing such topics.

I was at a sermon a year or two ago and the pastor said something like "the Bible specifically says God created the day and the night but says nothing about the dawn and the twilight. We know these times don't exist in defiance of God, we accept that day and night weren't exclusively God's plan and that these in-between times are a natural part of his creation. No one says 'God created day and night, not dim and bright but accepts that the bible only mentions the 2 ends of this wide

Also, let’s ignore the observable complexity of human experience in favor of reductive comparisons.

Gender changers: the hottest of electrical components. (My preferred electrician: @Alsoashley )

Xenophobes are universally terrible at metaphors. It's way too complicated for them.

Eh, they're still just different configurations of male and female parts. It's 2024, why don't we have new sex organs entirely by this point? Let's get weird.

Using a f***ing plug to prove your d****** bigoted point was stupid to begin with. We also use the terms slave and master for PC components, that doesn't mean we need to bring back slavery.

There's a myriad of devices literally called g************s or gender changers that exists for no other reasons than to moot that point.

Ooh! Throw in the gender changers!
