The French sure aren’t subtle when it comes to delivering a breathtaking performance, and Gojira's recent act during the Opening Ceremonies has taken social media by storm. The image, captured by Zhang Yuwei from Reuters, showcases the band against a grand stone building that looks like a castle, with multiple windows adding to the majestic setting.

Three members of Gojira are strategically positioned on small platforms at varying heights, creating a dramatic visual. One musician stands on a high platform near the top right of the building, another on a lower platform to the left, and the third is positioned near ground level at the bottom right. Adding to the spectacle, bright orange flames shoot upwards in the foreground, enhancing the already electrifying atmosphere.

Fans of Gojira couldn't contain their excitement. One comment read, "Watched it for Gojira, stayed for the over-the-top craziness of the rest of the show. At one point, I was thinking it might as well have been some sort of mega Eurovision." Another fan highlighted the impact of the performance, stating, "Gojira are awesome. I'm so happy knowing so many more people now know who they are."

The band's French origins surprised many. "TIL Gojira are French! Been listening to them for years, never looked too deeply into their bios. TBH Flying Whales is one of my favorite songs," one user exclaimed. Another pointed out the deeper message behind their music: "Someone once asked me why I listen to angry music like Gojira. 'This song is called 'Toxic Garbage Island' and it's non-fiction. Why aren't you angry?'"

The performance even sparked a conversation about the cultural and political undertones. "Ozzy biting the head off an innocent animal was cruelty. Beheading corrupt world leaders in some cases could potentially change the world for the better," commented one user. Others noted the mixed reactions, "to the surprise of nobody, the French right-wing and far-right didn't like the show. They're traditionalist; some are open monarchists."

Gojira's presence at the event seemed to have a lasting impact. "All of a sudden I'm more interested in the Olympics," one viewer mentioned. Another highlighted the band's influence on metal music on television: "That's probably all the metal regular viewers would see this year on TV."

This performance by Gojira during the Opening Ceremonies has not only captivated audiences but has also ignited discussions about music, culture, and politics. The French band continues to make waves, proving that their music and performances are a force to be reckoned with.

The translation is a bit off though, "ça ira, ça ira" in the context of this song rather means "enough is enough" than "it will be okay".

I watched the version with the commentators and you can really hear the lowkey “disgust” in their voices. F*** yeah France. Maybe we should have a global revolution, behead some billionaires and politicians
