The story of Klepetan and Malena is one that touches the hearts of many. These storks have captured the imaginations of people around the world with their extraordinary bond and remarkable journey. Malena, a stork who was tragically shot by hunters, was found injured by a kind-hearted man named Stjepan Vokić, who has cared for her for over 25 years.

In the first photograph, Malena stands majestically on a large nest made of twigs, gazing off into the distance against a backdrop of clear blue sky. The poignant text reveals her unfortunate past: "This is Malena. Years ago she got shot by some bad hunters. A local guy found her next to the road and took her home to take care of her. Because of the broken wing she can’t fly anymore."

The second photograph shifts the scene indoors, where Malena is shown nestled on a wooden platform. The daylight filters in, illuminating the space where Stjepan Vokić, her caregiver, stands nearby. The text states: "Because of her injury, she stays here through the winter. A guy made a place for her where she’s safe, warm and well-fed."

In the third photograph, Malena is perched high on a wooden beam, a safe haven created for her. The accompanying text reads: "She has a partner, Klepetan, who flies away every autumn with their grown chicks and leaves her here. On the first days of Spring she gets up in their nest and waits for him."

The final photograph captures a beautiful reunion, showing Malena and Klepetan standing close together on their large nest under the open sky. The touching text overlays the image: "And every year, for the last 14 years, he comes back after flying over 13,000 km. She welcomes him with excitement and then together they spend another season and raise another generation of chicks."

This captivating story has moved many to tears, with comments reflecting deep emotional responses. One user writes, "Great, now I’m crying about birds." Another highlights the emotional impact of the images: "The last image is so encouraging, what a story." Sadly, Malena passed away on July 7, 2021, due to old age and natural causes, leaving Klepetan to continue their legacy alone.

Stjepan Vokić, now over 80 years old, has dedicated a significant part of his life to caring for these storks. The devotion and care he has shown reflect the deep bond that can form between humans and animals. As one user poignantly noted, "I love when something like this is the first thing I see on my feed. Good birdos."

The inspiring journey of Klepetan and Malena serves as a reminder of the resilience of nature and the power of love and care. Their story continues to resonate with many, offering a glimmer of hope and joy in the simple, yet profound, moments of life.

The "guy" is named Stjepan Vokić, he's more than 80yrs old and has cared for both storks for more than 25 years. Sadly, Malena died of old age in 2021.

“In 2017, Klepetan returned to find another bird and a newly laid egg in Malena's nest. Klepetan drove the male away and smashed his competitor's egg.”

I'd like to get my hands on the guy that shot that bird

LivesInThe90s

It's sad but if he didn't leave, the kids wouldn't be able to move on and find there own families. This way the next generation continues. Otherwise this poor human guy would have big birds multiplying in his year every year.

What a sweet story. I hope the hunters were charged with a crime.
