A recent comic circulating on social media humorously illustrates a shocking revelation about deceptive restaurant practices. The four-panel comic blends a cartoon character with a news segment, capturing both humor and critique.

In the top left panel, a cartoon character stands next to a wireframe globe grid, neutrally asking, "hey capitalism how's it goin?" This sets the stage for the surprising story to follow.

The top right panel features a photo of a woman with short brunette hair, wearing a leopard print top, looking directly into the camera. The accompanying text unveils a startling scenario: "She found out that there are restaurants now posing as people on dating apps, just so you go to their business. And once you get stood up, they know that probably 9 times out of 10 that you're going to buy something from them." This quote highlights the cunning strategies some establishments employ to attract customers.

The bottom left panel shows the cartoon character with a mildly surprised or serious face, reflecting the mixed emotions readers might feel upon learning about these tactics.

Finally, the bottom right panel captures the cartoon character's look of shock, with wide eyes and raised eyebrows, exclaiming, "Jesus Christ." This reaction encapsulates the general sentiment towards such deceptive practices.

This comic has sparked a variety of reactions online. Comments range from critical takes on capitalism, such as "once humans understand that corporations only use humans we'll start the healing process," to more specific grievances like "name and shame any restaurants doing this, please! That's beyond cruel."

One user pointed out, "I don't think that lying to people to effectively scam them is somehow unique to capitalism. Misleading others to take what they have isn't even unique to humans." Another comment humorously speculated on fake profiles, "The profile: Richy McBigd***s. 6'5. The hair of James Dean, the jawline of Brad Pitt, a perfect tan and surrounded by 11 golden retriever pups."

This story has gone viral, with many questioning the ethics behind such marketing strategies. As reported by Paretay on TikTok, and further discussed in an article on Bored Panda, this practice is not just a minor inconvenience but a deceptive ploy that undermines trust in both people and businesses.

The comic and its accompanying story serve as a reminder to remain vigilant and critical of the tactics employed by some companies to attract customers.

I don't think that lying to people to effectively scam them is somehow unique to capitalism. Hell, misleading others to take what they have isn't even unique to humans.

As scams go, this seems like it would have an extremely low return on investment.

If they could prove it, surely that's fraud?

So, what restaurant was it? Oh, she didn't name it? Hmm. And she's a TikTok influencer, not looking for more views, right? Hmm.

As much as people are blaming "corporations" for this, and I agree capitalism is flawed AF, an actual person came up with this idea and carried it out. Every horrible thing a corporation has done started as an idea in an actual person's head.

If only we could regulate things.... Nah, that's too burdensome. Let's just give them more tights than people.
