Chrissy Marshall, a popular Instagram influencer, has captivated audiences with her practical and fascinating trick for determining whether a battery is dead or alive. Marshall, who is deaf and has grown up using hearing aids before transitioning to a cochlear implant, shares her unique method in a recent video.

In the video, Marshall explains that her cochlear implant battery has died and demonstrates a simple test to check a battery's status. Dropping the battery, she reveals that a live battery will simply knock out while a dead one will bounce. This clever trick is particularly useful for those who use zinc-air batteries in hearing aids, as it helps them quickly identify which batteries need replacing.

Marshall's video has garnered an enthusiastic response from viewers. One user highlighted the science behind the trick, mentioning the formation of zinc oxide in used batteries. Another user humorously suggested applying the test to people to ensure they aren't buried alive. Comments ranged from admiration for Marshall's joyful demeanor to praise for the practical information shared.

Many users expressed their eagerness to try the battery test themselves, with some planning to apply the method to AA and AAA batteries. One viewer even mentioned their experience with a legally-deaf ex, noting how they could tell when the batteries were running low based on visual cues.

The discussion also included light-hearted remarks, such as the suggestion to smash a full battery with a hammer to ensure it's dead, and a playful observation that the test does not work with car batteries. Additionally, some users advocated for teaching American Sign Language (ASL) as a baseline for easier communication in various settings.

Marshall's infectious joy and informative content have made her a beloved figure on social media. For those curious to see more of her uplifting posts, she can be followed on Instagram at @chrissymarshall_.

Oh that happy is infectious.

LordLucyTheSecond

This is due to the formation of zinc oxide as the battery is used, especially in the zinc-air batteries used in hearing aids https://www.princeton.edu/news/2015/03/30/battery-bounce-test-often-bounces-target

That is really cool! Gonna try that next time with a small battery. We need to start doing that with people to make sure we don't bury anyone alive!

LitterBoxKing

I'm looking forward to trying that with a car battery.

ASL should be taught at least at a baseline for easier communications. Hell, neither my wife nor I have hearing issues, but to say a quick word in a loud room or concert or party without screaming at each other would be great sometimes.

With my legally-deaf ex, it was simple. The moment i could see she was starting to slowly squint meant the batteries were running low because she'd start focusing on my lip movement. Also because she'd talk louder.

Tbh my implants batteries last about 20 hours so i just change both every morning and it will last me through most days so i don't need this trick. None the less i'm intrigued enough about it to try it out tomorrow to see if there's some truth to it
