An image circulating on social media has sparked both amusement and controversy. The composite image features two sections: the upper part presents a news-like content, while the lower part showcases a tweet from a verified social media user.

The upper portion of the image displays two side-by-side headshots of the same woman. The left side of the image shows her with full makeup, including foundation, lipstick, eye shadow, and mascara. The right side reveals her natural skin tone and facial features, devoid of any makeup. The text accompanying these images reads: "Man develops app to reveal what women look like without makeup," and "Man Develops App to Reveal What Women Look Like Sans Makeup," sourced from nymag.com.

The lower part includes a tweet from user "@JamilahLemieux," whose verified account reads "Jamilah is 34." Her tweet humorously states, "Men who have actual relationships with women usually know this because they see us without makeup and even naked sometimes."

The app, purportedly developed to reveal what women look like without makeup, has garnered mixed reactions online. Some users see it as an invasion of privacy or an unnecessary tool, while others find it intriguing or humorous.

One commenter, reacting to the image, remarked, "Nothing says virgin software developer like this." Another user expressed skepticism about the app's accuracy, saying, "Idk. I don’t trust AI to be skilled enough to be accurate. I feel like it will just reverse the lighting or coloring of the most used photo filters."

The app's intended purpose was to assist in identifying victims of sex trafficking by removing superficial alterations like makeup and photo filters. Despite this noble goal, many people criticized the developer, accusing him of misogyny.

User comments ranged from support for makeup as a confidence booster to criticisms of dating app filters. One user humorously noted, "Have you seen the filters people use on dating apps now? They crank it all the way up and they look like a potato head doll... just a flesh-colored ellipse with eyes, lips, nostrils."

Another commenter added a light-hearted perspective, "I'd like to see what the app does to one of the Kardashians," while another expressed a more personal viewpoint, "I love my wife without makeup, and with makeup, and naked, and clothed, when she's just standing there, or just sitting there."

The image and the app it references have clearly struck a chord with many, sparking a broader conversation about beauty standards, technology, and privacy. Whether seen as a useful tool or an unnecessary gimmick, the app has undeniably made an impact.

Naked you say!?

QuigleyDownUnder

Yeah I remember this, he developed the software to help identify victims of sex trafficking and got hated on for it.

The app actually uses AI to help identify people's faces minus dirt, makeup, photo touchups and other manipulations to make it easier to find victims of trafficking. But instead of lauding the attempt to do a good thing, everyone dog piled the developer for presumed misogyny

Idk. I don’t trust AI to be skilled enough to be accurate. I feel like it will just reverse the lighting or coloring of the most used photo filters, which doesn’t mean it is accurate. I’d like to see what it would do to me since photos of me wearing makeup look exactly the same as photos of me without makeup and therefore, I only ever bother with mascara and even that’s rare now

Hahaha, just wait until you get to see the befur and after of a Goth! =P All sexy, smoldering, dark, and evil! Come waking up (especially after little sleep), not wearing any makeup or anything, pfft! We just look dark and evil =P

I don't care if a woman wears make up. But please, ladies, for the love of GOD stop using pictures with filters on your dating profiles. Like, why are all your pictures you with that dumb dog nose/tongue/ears thing? Actually, that made me think: How long do you suppose it will take till we get some smart glasses that apply a filter to everyone we see, so everyone looks beautiful with them on?

That looks like the makeup coloring has been removed, but not the sculpting effect. I'd like to see what the app does to one of the Kardashians.
