On June 12, Griffin, the son of Instagram user "jimbentonshots," was involved in a tragic accident while walking his bike at an intersection in Boston. A speeding car struck him, leading to an immediate rush to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Griffin underwent brain surgery to treat a traumatic brain injury, leaving his family devastated and fearful.

Upon arrival, his family found him on a breathing tube, with one side of his head shaved and a large horseshoe-shaped incision closed with staples. Despite the grim circumstances, Griffin showed signs of hope in the days following his surgery. He responded to commands to squeeze hands, wiggle toes, briefly open his eyes, and recall vital information such as his name, the date, and the incident details.

Griffin’s recovery journey was remarkable. Even while enduring significant pain, he managed to walk, communicate with friends via FaceTime, and even order food through UberEats from his hospital bed. The medical team expressed surprise and happiness at his progress, noting that many would not have survived such an ordeal.

Throughout this challenging time, Griffin's family displayed immense strength and love. His father, Jim Benton, expressed deep gratitude for his wife and daughter, acknowledging that their support helped him cope with the trauma. Remarkably, Griffin was discharged and returned to his place in Boston, where his family took turns assisting him until he could regain his independence.

The outpouring of support from the online community was overwhelming. Commenters like @JKBenton shared similar experiences, offering heartfelt wishes for Griffin's continued recovery. Others echoed sentiments of love and support, emphasizing the importance of holding loved ones close.

This story underscores the resilience of the human spirit and the power of familial love. Griffin's journey serves as a powerful reminder to cherish and support our loved ones, especially in times of crisis.

@JKBenton My older brother had a traumatic brain injury and far exceeded his doctors recovery expectations because he got a Wii system a few months before the accident and spent most of his recovery time playing Big Brain Academy and Guitar Hero. I'm 100% serious about this and his doctors wrote papers about it. Those games teach fine motor control, memory, and patterns and combined with physical therapy he went from a 60% expected recovery to over 90%.

In May I suffered a traumatic fall, leaving myself in a coma for a few weeks. I can't fathom how long, even after being told, because it's all a "blank spot." I was told I would not walk for months, several weeks at the earliest. I asked the doctors if I could have my music, which is on my phone. They asked why, and I said I would use music therapy to retrain my feet and legs to walk while in my bed. They dismissed that part, but allowed me my music to stave off boredom. I began (1/2)

Thankfully Boston has one of the best hospital systems in the world. Between mass general, Tufts, and beth Israel it's one of the best hospital cities.
