The aviation community was recently abuzz with admiration for Svetlana Kapanina, regarded as the world's best female stunt pilot, after a captivating video titled "Rule 1: fly the aircraft no matter what has happened" surfaced on Imgur. This video showcased Kapanina's remarkable composure and professionalism during an unexpected mid-flight challenge.

In a scenario that could rattle even the most seasoned pilots, Kapanina faced extreme conditions with winds raging between 60-120 mph directly in her face. Despite these daunting circumstances, she adhered to the fundamental aviation rule: Aviate. Navigate. Communicate.

The video features an intense exchange with the control tower. As the tower inquired, "Aircraft on final, is this gonna be a full stop?" Kapanina's response was a series of frantic noises mimicking the wind's ferocity, "SSHHHSHSHWHHWHHWWWHHWWWWHWSSSHHSHHHSWHHHWHWWSSSS." The tower's understated reply, "...oh," captured the gravity of the situation.

Observers on Imgur were quick to praise Kapanina's skills and calm demeanor. One user highlighted the pilot's decision to stabilize the flight and land safely rather than attempting to close the cockpit amidst such conditions. Another lauded her cool-headedness, remarking, "Great job by a very cool pilot."

The incident raised several technical concerns from viewers. Comments ranged from speculating a latch failure to the necessity of emergency goggles for eye protection. One user humorously noted, "Imagine a bug flying in your eye..." while another pointed out the sheer dust and debris she must have endured, questioning, "how much dust in her eyes?"

Kapanina's ability to maintain control under such pressure was nothing short of extraordinary. Her professionalism was met with admiration, as one viewer stated, "Wow completely impressive on her professionalism and calm demeanor I’d have an ulcer if I even survived."

The video also sparked discussions on the importance of safety measures. Comments like "Rule 2: wear your seatbelt" and "today I learned, always carry emergency goggles," underscored the critical need for preparedness in aviation.

Svetlana Kapanina's flight is a testament to the resilience and exceptional skill required in aviation. Her actions remind all pilots of the paramount rule: no matter the situation, always fly the aircraft.

Some eye protection would have been nice.

Between the shock, piloting an aircraft, 60-120 mph winds in her face, and the admission that it shattered (which I don't see), you're surprised she didn't reach outside of the aircraft to close it...? wut

Looks like the latch failed.

In order to close the cockpit she'd have to A) let go of the control surfaces, B) reach it while being strapped in, and C) be able to pull it closed in spite of wind resistance at that speed. Better to just stabilize your flight and land.
