In a powerful social media post, Maud Mostly (@MaudMostly) has ignited a significant conversation about the dynamics of workplace sexual exploitation. The post, which has rapidly gained traction, highlights the pervasive issue of power abuse by men in senior positions who withhold promotions and threaten demotions unless they receive sexual favors from their subordinates.

Maud Mostly's post reads: "We were really told 'she slept her way to the top' instead of 'men in power abused their power by withholding promotions and threatening demotions if they did not receive sex from their workers'."

The post has resonated with many, including a Tumblr user named "three-blogs-in-a-trenchcoat," who responded: "H******** I did not realise this before. The only way a woman could sleep her way to the top is if the people on the top reward sexual favours more than actual qualifications. But, y'know, it's her fault..."

This exchange has sparked a broader dialogue about the unjust narratives that blame victims rather than addressing the root cause of the issue—those in power who exploit their positions. Many commenters have shared their own experiences and thoughts, further amplifying the conversation.

One user remarked, "There's a reason why most 'decent' companies or organizations ban relationships with subordinates... power dynamics." Another shared a personal anecdote: "I tried sleeping my way to the top, but was promptly fired from my elevator repair job."

The comments also touched on the broader implications of such power dynamics. One user drew a parallel to the issue of illegal immigration, stating, "Same thing with 'illegal immigrants taking jobs'… Who is giving those jobs and not checking for correct paperwork? The shady business owners. Crack down on those businesses and the 'problem' would be solved much quicker."

The discussion has also highlighted the double standards and societal tropes that perpetuate these issues. One user commented, "This whole idea ties back into 'Treat Women Like S***' Trope #12: specifically, the idea that a man who's willing to operate this way is a rakish scoundrel, while a woman who's willing to give him what he wants is somehow a sneaky, calculating w****."

Others shared their emotional reactions and personal stories. One particularly poignant comment read, "Goodness gracious, this made me cry. Growing up in the eighties s*****, mostly because I didn’t realize how bad it was until I was in my forties. I’m a strong woman, and what I’ve had to blindly endure to survive with my integrity intact now crushes my soul. I’m okay. I have a soul mate. Stay strong out there. Fight for yourself. You’re worth it."

This viral post by Maud Mostly has undoubtedly shed light on the critical issue of workplace sexual exploitation and the importance of addressing power imbalances. The widespread reaction underscores the need for continued dialogue and action to ensure safe and equitable work environments for all.

Now that I see that written down it's incredibly obvious. Yikes.

Just slap some "boys will be boys" on this moral failure, or maybe a little "that's just how it is", and everything's fine.

Goodness gracious, this made me cry. Growing up in the eighties s*****, mostly because I didn’t realize how bad it was until I was in my fourties. A friemd of mine was VP at the small company she worked for- she had an MBA, a degree in Human Resources, and worked every position in that company to learn the ropes, and she still had to deal with regular 'jokes' about how she must have been sleeping with the boss

Ok, but this just means they are both s***ty and doing wrong.

Is it maybe possible that some men abuse their power and some women also abuse their sexuality? Or is it just a blanket statement that it's always the guy that use the power to coerce the female? I think it might be a bit of both
