We call that positive reinforcement. Also, I highly recommend giving it to yourself. Say, out loud, "I have to do x." Then do X. Then, when you're done, again, OUT LOUD!!! say "Good job." F****** PARROTS know to do this.

giving out random compliments is such a great feeling. it costs nothing and potentially makes someone else feel good. as someone recovering from lifelong social anxiety, complimenting strangers gives me a huge boost of confidence and joy.

Text compliments and real life verbal compliments**** very differently. The last time I had a verbal compliment was literally like 10 years ago. Like I don't think I'm a terrible looking dude, not necessarily anything to write home about, but I don't think I'm hideous or anything. But still, compliments are incredibly rare. The only ones that I seem to get anymore are just my deep sultry bedroom voice, or so it's been described to me as such
