Prison privatization is one of the worst sins of capitalism.

Why did I read that as: 300 state or federal officials should go to prison?

Some of these prisons have deals with the state that even if they're closed they'll still be paid.

The 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, **except as a punishment** for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." -- Slavery is still quite legal here.

Friendly reminder that only 8% of inmates are in private prisons. While private prisons shouldn't exist, Their impact is often overstated

This story is from 2017. There are new, fresh reasons to dislike this facility: https://www.aclu-nm.org/en/news/they-treat-us-were-animals-inside-torrance-countys-troubled-detention-center

Working as intended. Money is more important than people. Always has been.

Holy f***, America.

If its such a big problem, why not start arresting and incarcerating all those n***s/supremacists/terrorists that are known as MAGA? Those prisons would full up fast with people who deserve to be locked up.

Private prisons have gone down from ~20% of prison population to ~8.2% of prisoners. This article is from 2017, 6 years ago. We have been closing private prisons nationwide for about the past ~20 years. This article is panicked hyperbole from 6 years ago with little basis in fact, for a problem that is on its way to being fixed. Further fixed by a Biden executive order in 2021. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/biden-s-order-terminates-federal-private-prison-contracts-here-s-n1255776
