That's not awkward. What's awkward is celebrating the day your country was colonised rather than celebrating the day you became an independent nation, while simultaneously having the flag of your coloniser as part of your own flag.

Every country that tries to help another country acts like they've gotten ahold of the Ring of Power in Lord of the Rings ... "I remember what it was like fighting for my freedom. So, with this new country, I will do good. I will treat it with respect, and help it rise!"
