The US Government backs the loans allowing people to borrow more then they could any other way, which lets the colleges raise prices.

I take all your points, but I'm missing something; how does making loans so easy to get (your basically have to fog a mirror) STOP people from getting educated? Sure, debt slavery can control a population to a degree, but an educated population is just what Madison said it would be. If the goal were to curtail education wouldn't making student loans possible be counter productive?

To digress somewhat. In the day people thought that "those guys" were rich because they had gone to college. It's actually the reverse. Those guys went to college because their families were rich. And while they were there they made "the right connections". Your girlfriend's/boyfriend's father was president of a bank. Your roommate's uncle was CFO of a major corporation. And so forth.
