Didn't the Iberian fix most of their drug problems by legalizing everything and treating drug addictions as a health crisis? If only the USA had blueprints for what works and what doesnt

I don't get it. How do wealthy people become wealthier doing that? Where are the tax breaks and the oil subsidies? Why aren't vulnerable minorities being arrested? I don't... I can't... I...

Yeah, and that's about to change with the new Finnish government. The right wing racists have won the recent elections and are looking to clamp down on social spending. Also, clamp down on immigrants. Nationalists being nationalists, I guess.

Not hard to be better than the US really.

SergeantMajorSpoiler

Well, yes and no. There are subsidies for people to get at roof on their head, but we still have homeless people. Not many, at least per capita, but still. There are homeless in Finland.

JustAnotherVictimOfAmbientMorality

They haven't _ended_ homelessness, they sharply decreased it over the past 30 years. Finland has a homeless population of 7.9 per 10 000, while the US has 17.5 per 10 000. The major thing is that this value has been constantly falling in Finland for the past 30 years, and almost no homeless people remain who sleep out in the open. For the record, the population of Finland is 40% smaller than that of New York.

Austria also has a highly effective social housing system. We could learn a lot from them.

SHarvest

This is assuming the US wants to solve homelessness. We'll throw trillions of dollars at a half forgotten war without blinking, but help each other? Nope, richest country the world has ever seen but we can't afford it somehow.

MinistryOfSillyTalks

Well in all fairness homelessness is rare in all Nordic countries, not just here. Haven't stumbled to a bumcicle like ever.
