Trump Leads Biden in Latest Polls
Updated Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 6:07 AM CDT
In recent political developments, a Suffolk University/USA TODAY poll released Tuesday shows former President Donald Trump leading President Joe Biden by 3 percent in a six-candidate presidential ballot. This marks a notable shift from a survey conducted a month earlier, where the two candidates were tied. Another poll conducted for CNN by SSRS found Trump holding a more substantial 6 percentage point lead over Biden, adding to the growing concerns within the Democratic Party.
Questions about Biden's capability to take on Trump have intensified, particularly after a debate where the President struggled to respond to verbal attacks. Fifty-six percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters now believe the party stands a better chance of winning with a candidate other than Biden. An increasing number of Democrats are publicly calling for Biden to step aside.
Notably, Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, became the first sitting Democrat in Congress to call for Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, citing Biden's poor debate performance and his consistent lag behind Trump in polls throughout the year. Doggett emphasized the importance of protecting democracy from an authoritarian takeover by Trump and his associates. "President Biden saved democracy by defeating Trump in 2020 but must not deliver the country back to Trump in 2024," Doggett stated.
Despite these calls, the Biden campaign remains steadfast. In an email, the campaign highlighted that other polls, including internal ones, showed Biden tied or ahead of Trump post-debate. They also pointed to media coverage of Barack Obama's 2012 debate, which temporarily impacted his polling.
The CNN poll reveals that just over three-quarters of voters believe Trump performed better in the recent debate, with only 23 percent thinking Biden did better. Furthermore, 50 percent of debate viewers indicated that the former president won, compared to 11 percent for Biden. Another 28 percent of viewers felt that neither candidate emerged victorious, and 44 percent stated that the debate did not influence their voting decision.
Additional CNN poll data indicate that Vice President Kamala Harris performed better against Trump than Biden, at 45 percent. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg matched Biden's performance at 43 percent, while Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer fared worse at 42 percent.
The Biden campaign insists that the President will remain in the race and be the party's nominee, with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and other Democrats providing supportive statements. However, Biden continues to trail Democratic senators in key states and has lagged behind Trump in most polls.
Rep. Jared Golden of Maine, one of five House Democrats representing Trump districts, expressed in the Bangor Daily News that he is okay with Trump winning. Meanwhile, Democratic candidate Adam Frisch and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro have also voiced concerns about Biden's re-election bid, suggesting stronger candidates like Vice President Kamala Harris.
As the 2024 presidential race heats up, the Democratic Party faces mounting pressure to reconsider its candidate, while Trump appears to solidify his lead. The coming months will be crucial in determining the direction of both campaigns.
Conservative Bias:
Well, folks, here we are again witnessing the absolute chaos that the liberal agenda has brought upon the Democratic Party. Biden is floundering, and it's no surprise! The man can't even string a coherent sentence together on a debate stage, and now he's trailing behind Trump in the polls. The Democrats are in disarray, with their own members calling for Biden to step aside. It's a circus, and the clowns are running the show. Rep. Lloyd Doggett and other Democrats are panicking because they know Biden is a disaster. They're terrified of another Trump presidency, but guess what? It's happening because the American people are waking up to the liberal lies and incompetence. The Biden campaign is desperately clinging to skewed internal polls, but the writing is on the wall. Trump is leading because he represents strength and common sense, unlike the weak, confused leadership of Biden and his cronies. The Democrats are scrambling, and it's glorious to watch their house of cards crumble.
Liberal Bias:
Let's be clear, the current political turmoil is a direct result of the Republican Party's relentless pursuit of power at any cost. Trump, the man who incited an insurrection, is now leading in the polls, and it's a damning indictment of the state of our democracy. The Republicans have spent years undermining Biden, spreading misinformation, and stoking division. Now, they're capitalizing on Biden's challenges, with Rep. Lloyd Doggett and others voicing concerns. But let's not forget why we're here: Trump's authoritarian tendencies and the GOP's complicity. The Biden campaign is fighting back, but it's an uphill battle against a party that thrives on chaos and deceit. The CNN poll showing Trump ahead is a wake-up call, but it's also a reflection of the GOP's success in manipulating public opinion. The stakes couldn't be higher; democracy itself is on the line. The Democrats must rally behind Biden or another strong candidate to prevent the nightmare of a Trump return. The Republicans are salivating at the prospect of regaining power, but we must resist their destructive agenda at all costs.
