New Jersey GOP Coalition Fights Sanctuary State Directive

As TikTok videos expose the role of human smugglers in facilitating illegal immigration at the U.S. southern border, a coalition of New Jersey Republicans led by Assemblymen Greg Myhre and Brian Rumpf, and state Sen. Carmen Amato Jr., is mounting an effort to overturn a state directive that limits local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The 2018 "sanctuary state" directive, which prohibits New Jersey law enforcement agencies from aiding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is now being challenged as the state grapples with a surge of illegal migrants.

The influx of migrants into New Jersey has been substantial, with thousands arriving in the past year, many of whom are transported to local NJ Transit train stations before journeying to New York City. This situation has intensified with a photograph from September 27, 2023, showing migrants crossing the Rio Grande at Eagle Pass, Texas, signaling a broader issue of unchecked entries into the United States.

The contentious sanctuary state directive prevents law enforcement from notifying individuals of their impending release or extending detainment on civil immigration detainer requests. Critics, including the New Jersey GOP, describe the current state of affairs as a "slap in the face" to law-abiding, taxpaying citizens. With over 500,000 undocumented migrants residing in New Jersey, and an estimated 17,000 entering illegally in 2023 alone, the call for change is growing louder.

Amidst this backdrop, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made headlines with his comments on redirecting Haitian migrants arriving in the Florida Keys to Martha's Vineyard. Meanwhile, some of the 49 migrants previously transported to Martha's Vineyard by Florida are now legally authorized to work in the United States.

In Texas, Danamarie McNicholl reports on the selective prosecution of migrants from Muslim-majority countries, prompting Senate Judiciary Chairman Senator D*** Durbin to call for an investigation into potential discrimination. Durbin has expressed concern over findings that suggest a disproportionate number of individuals charged under a specific U.S. code in Texas's Western District hailed from Muslim-majority countries. The Department of Justice has remained silent on the issue, even as the State Department highlights threats from state-sponsored terrorism in Iran and Syria, as well as the persisting danger from ISIS-K in Afghanistan.

FBI Director Christopher Wray has underscored the risk of terrorism associated with vulnerabilities at the southern border, noting an increase in "known or suspected terrorists" attempting to enter the U.S. in the past five years. This concern was also echoed in March 2024, when over 100 migrants attempted to rush the U.S. border.

Lora Ries of The Heritage Foundation has criticized Senator Durbin's approach, suggesting a need for more comprehensive data from Customs and Border Protection. Senator John Cornyn has further reprimanded Durbin for the lack of progress on immigration legislation and for criticizing the legal actions in Texas's Western District.

As the debate over immigration policies continues, the efforts of the New Jersey GOP to repeal the sanctuary state directive underscore the complex and polarizing nature of immigration reform in America.

Conservative Bias:

Folks, what we have here is a classic example of the liberal lunacy that's turning our proud nation into a free-for-all flop house. These New Jersey Republicans, God bless them, are fighting the good fight to restore law and order in a state hijacked by left-wing radicals who think it's okay to handcuff our police and roll out the red carpet for illegal immigrants. This "sanctuary state" nonsense is nothing but a slap in the face to every red-blooded American citizen who follows the rules. It's high time we support these patriots in their quest to overturn this absurd directive and take back our streets from the chaos that's been imported thanks to the Democrats' open-border fever dream. And let's not ignore the real threat here – terrorists exploiting these same open borders that the left seems to love so much. It's a clear and present danger, and it's about time we wake up to the reality that liberal policies are not just failing American citizens, they're outright endangering our lives.

Liberal Bias:

In what can only be described as a xenophobic crusade, these New Jersey Republicans are shamelessly fearmongering to dismantle a directive that's there to protect human rights. The GOP's relentless attack on sanctuary policies is driven by nothing more than their disdain for the vulnerable and a perverse desire to pander to their base's worst instincts. Instead of addressing the root causes of migration or the humanitarian needs of these individuals, they're stoking the flames of division and hatred. It's a disgusting display of the conservative agenda that prioritizes incarceration and deportation over compassion and due process. And let's talk about the real crisis – the selective prosecution of migrants from Muslim-majority countries. It's a stark reminder of the institutionalized racism and Islamophobia festering at the heart of Republican policy, all while they turn a blind eye to the fact that migrants are contributing to our society and economy. The GOP's narrative is not just wrong; it's mo***** reprehensible and a direct assault on the values that make America great.
