Special Counsel Robert Hur's recent report has also exacerbated concerns, painting Biden as a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory," though it recommended no criminal charges against him. Hur's findings detailed Biden's difficulty in remembering key life events, including times from his vice-presidency.

The focus on the mental and physical fitness of Biden and Trump reflects a growing public interest in the capabilities of their leaders. Republican strategist Henry Barbour and others have expressed concern that Americans might feel uneasy with Biden's continuation as president. And let's not ignore the hypocrisy of Trump's self-congratulatory cognitive test boasts – a bar so low it's practically buried underground. The GOP's fixation on age is nothing but a thinly veiled attempt to undermine a dedicated public servant while propping up their own deeply flawed standard-bearer.
