The controversy surrounding City Hall has reached a boiling point as new calls for Mayor Eric Adams to resign intensify. This development follows the entanglement of several of his top aides in federal investigations. FOX 5 NY's Morgan McKay reports from the heart of the scandal, bringing to light the growing demands for a change in leadership.

City Council Member Cabana has become the first to openly call for Mayor Adams' resignation. While Mayor Adams has not been charged in connection with the ongoing federal inquiries, Cabana cites a persistent pattern of mismanagement and a series of leadership failures as the key reasons for his stance. "It's not just that more than [one aide is] being investigated, but it's also a culmination of his other failures of leadership," Cabana asserts.

The situation is further compounded by at least four federal investigations targeting the mayor and his closest aides. Notably, former NYPD Police Commissioner Edward Cabana resigned recently, with federal investigators reportedly examining whether his twin brother sold police protection to nightlife businesses. The probe has ensnared several NYPD executives, who have been compelled to surrender their phones to the FBI.

The scandal does not stop there. Federal prosecutors are reportedly also investigating two deputy mayors, a top aide to Adams, the schools chancellor, and Adams' campaign for various alleged corruption violations. In a dramatic turn of events over the weekend, Lisa Zornberg, Adams' chief legal advisor, resigned abruptly. In her resignation letter, she stated, "I have concluded that I can no longer effectively serve in my position," signaling her frustration over the mayor's refusal to dismiss aides embroiled in the federal investigations.

Mayor Adams has acknowledged Zornberg's contributions, remarking, "She has been a great advisor," yet he remains steadfast in his decision to retain his implicated aides. The ongoing turmoil at City Hall has cast a long shadow over his administration, raising questions about its future stability.
