In a matter of seconds, the firework detonated, leading to a catastrophic injury. “The firework was up to my face every time I tried to light it up... I got down to my waist side and I was like, I'm going to get this to light up,” JPP recalled. The explosion resulted in severe damage to his hand, prompting immediate panic among his family members.

In the chaos, JPP's son's mother was frantic, screaming about his injured hand. Despite the distress, JPP remained focused on getting to the hospital as quickly as possible. “The hospital was like 15, 10 minutes away, but we got there in 5 minutes,” he described, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Upon arrival, JPP's only request to the medical staff was to save his hand if possible. "Look, no matter what, don't cut off my hand. Give me the option," he pleaded before passing out from the pain and shock.
