Stairs with a lot of bounce can be both annoying and unsafe. If dealing with wobbly stairs, one effective solution is to frame a support wall underneath them. This step-by-step guide will walk through the process, ensuring sturdy, reliable stairs.

First, begin by measuring and marking where the support wall will be positioned. Once the layout is clear, cut a pressure-treated 2x4 to match the width of the stairs, which in this instance is 42 inches. Secure this base plate to the floor using three masonry screws, ensuring a solid foundation.

Next, use a 4-foot level to plumb up from the base plate and mark where the top of the wall will meet the underside of the stairs. This will involve making marks on both ends and connecting them with a level line to ensure accuracy.

Determining the angle of the steps is crucial. Begin by making a plumb line on the stringer, and then use a speed square to find the angle, which is a 31-degree angle in this case. With this information, use a table saw to make a 31-degree bevel cut on both sides of the top plate. Fasten this beveled top plate to the bottom of the stairs using deck screws, applying two screws per stringer for a secure fit.

Measure the distance from the bottom plate to the top plate to determine the lengths for the studs. Set a miter saw to a 31-degree angle and make the necessary cuts. It's important to verify the angle is correct before cutting all the studs to avoid errors.

Install the studs by s******* them into place, using two screws at both the top and bottom for each stud. This method ensures there are no squeaks, providing a quiet and firm support. Place the rest of the studs, aligning one directly under each stringer, to complete the support wall.

Follow these steps to transform wobbly stairs into a sturdy, reliable structure. For a detailed visual guide, watch the full video and see each step in action.
