Discover the unsettling story of Alyssa Bustamante, a name that sends shivers down the spines of true crime enthusiasts. In Missouri, this young woman's journey from a seemingly innocent childhood to a life sentence in prison is as disturbing as it is tragic.

Alyssa Bustamante's early years were marred by instability; her parents were deemed unfit, leading her grandparents to take legal custody of her and her three siblings when she was just eight years old. Despite this rocky start, Alyssa seemed to thrive initially, achieving good grades and actively participating in church activities. However, by the age of 13, her life took a dark turn.

Alyssa began struggling with severe mental health issues, leading to a stint in a psychiatric hospital. She engaged in self-harm and even confided in friends about her morbid curiosity regarding what it might feel like to kill someone. This horrifying curiosity culminated in a tragic event on October 21, 2009.

On that fateful day, Alyssa used her younger sister to lure their 9-year-old neighbor, Elizabeth Olton, into the woods under the guise of play. Once there, Alyssa brutally attacked Elizabeth and ended her life, burying her in a shallow grave she had prepared five days earlier. Chillingly, she later wrote in her journal that the experience was "pretty enjoyable" before heading to church as if nothing had happened.

Elizabeth Olton's body was discovered within days, and Alyssa Bustamante was swiftly arrested. She ultimately pled guilty to second-degree murder and a weapons charge. The court sentenced her to life in prison with the possibility of conditional release after 15 years for the murder and an additional 30 years for the weapons charge.
