An amusing and slightly shocking sign at a hardware store has caught the attention of many, sparking a whirlwind of comments and reactions online. The sign, prominently displayed on the entrance door, reads:

```
NO
PUBLIC
RESTROOMS
```

Beneath this bold announcement, in smaller text, it clarifies the reason:

```
You can thank the customer that
smeared poo all over the toilet.
```

The image, which has been circulating on Reddit, has garnered a plethora of comments from users sharing their own horror stories about public restroom mishaps and the unexpected consequences of such incidents.

One user reminisces about a similar situation in a pizza place they used to work at, where a customer wreaked havoc in the restroom, leading to a day-long closure and a visit from hazmat cleaners. The unfortunate event involved the customer smearing feces on the sink, dirty rags, extra toilet paper rolls, and even the door before disappearing without a trace.

Another comment mentions a friend's restaurant that faced a similar ordeal, necessitating the intervention of a biohazard cleaning team. These stories highlight the extreme lengths some individuals will go to, often leaving employees and managers in a tough spot.

A recurring sentiment among the comments is the frustration towards individuals who ruin facilities for everyone else. As one commenter aptly puts it, "You can probably trace every law back to ‘and then some jerks ruined it for the rest of us.’"

The sign at the hardware store, specifically a Do it Best store as indicated by the visible logo in the image, serves as a stern reminder of the consequences of such disruptive behavior. It also reflects the store's decision to prioritize cleanliness and order over the convenience of offering public restrooms.

While some might find this policy inconvenient, the overwhelming support from online commenters suggests that many understand and respect the decision. One user humorously notes, "I respect the honesty," while another quips, "Honestly, can't blame them. They've got more important stuff to clean."

In the end, the sign at the hardware store has not only provided a good laugh but also sparked an important conversation about public restroom etiquette and the responsibilities of both customers and businesses. For those who might find themselves in desperate need of a restroom while shopping, it might be wise to plan ahead or frequent places known for their public facilities.

And for those who might be tempted to cause a mess, remember: actions have consequences, and sometimes, a few bad apples can spoil the bunch.

Happened at a pizza place I used to work at. Only bathroom was behind the waiting area. Manager would occasionally let people use the bathroom if they were waiting on food. We used the bathroom as a bit of storage too, a few cleaning things, dirty rag bins and extra toilet paper. Then some a***** comes in and places and order. Pays in cash. After a few minutes of waiting, he asks if there's a bathroom. Manager says sure and let's him in. In all of 3 minutes, while the manager boxed up his order, this degenerate managed to s*** on the sink, in the dirty rags, smeared it on all the extra rolls of toilet paper and even on the door. Manager finishes up the food and goes to hand it to the dude, but he's gone. A bit confused, he doesn't really think much of it. Maybe went out to smoke or take a phone call, whatever. Then poor Ashley gets back from a delivery. And goes to the bathroom. And then screams. We had to close for the day and also call hazmat cleaners. The manager filed a police report, and apparently, this guy had done it to 2 other places in the last week. I think he ended up getting charged after another place in the area got hit, and an officer just so happened recognized him as he was leaving. Some people shouldn't be allowed outside. Dude didn't even have any (dianosed) mental health issues, he just felt like making others miserable.

Happened to a friends restaurant, unhinged person did it to the walls etc. They had to bring in a bio team to clean it.

I have seen lot of s*** happened in Lowe's when I worked as janitor before switched to order puller then overnight stocker. I'm glad that I took a different path away from janitorial career (working in remodeling business now).

I feel this in my soul… sucks for the other customers but I respect their decision. I’m a manager at a restaurant, and cleaning gross bathrooms comes with the job. I’ve cleaned every bodily fluid, that can naturally come out of the body, out of the bathrooms. One afternoon a rather large man, looking like a white vin diesel if he was 450lbs and fat, came in and ordered carry out. He was pouring sweat like he just jogged forty miles, and after ordering he asked for the bathroom. He hustled to the bathroom next to the bar, and slams the door. About 40 minutes later he comes out, grabs his bag, and dashes out the door. None of us think anything of it, until the smell starts. Two regulars at the bar complain of a horrendous smell wafting out of the bathroom. So I ask our dishwasher to go tidy the bathroom and make sure it’s good. She went in, exited immediately, and said “No, and if you try to make me I will quit.” Surely it can’t be that bad? Oh but it was. I went in and not only was the smell ten times worse, it was a horrid sight. This man must have launched himself at the toilet once entering as the entire toilet seat and lid were snapped off, and as he clearly missed the toilet it was covered in a poorly wiped up s***. This was not the only place it was. It covered the floor, tiled half walls, sink, soap dispenser, trash can, toilet paper dispenser, and somehow a full size hand print on the non tiled section of the wall. I wanted to close and light the building on fire… but no, the owner said “Make the dishwasher do it.” Out comes the bleach, gloves, trash bags, sanitizer spray, paper towels, and a drywall mud knife we had in the basement from a previous repair. I set to work scr*****, scrubbing, bleaching, and trying really hard not to vomit. I took breaks when I couldn’t handle it anymore, and then would come back inside and try to clean it. After an hour of cleaning, I walked out to take out the bags I had filled to the dumpster. Once I came back inside I was informed by our regulars the smell was getting worse, and back in I went. I checked everything over, the smell was still horrible, and I then went to change the trash bag that was in the can as I knew it had s*** covered paper towels in it from his poor clean up. I pulled out the trash bag with a heavy tug as it was filled with s***. I don’t mean cleaned up p***, but the size of a baby or two large cantaloupes just sitting in the bottom of the bag. I sealed it up, changed it out, and left the fan running in hopes of clearing out the smell. The owner came by later, and once hearing the tale said “why didn’t you make the dishwasher clean it?” I told him next time he can clean it, because I never will again. As a restaurant, we can’t deny a bathroom to customers, but after that experience I don’t blame any non-food stores from denying people. Was not paid enough for that s***.

I managed coffee shops and movie theatres for most of my 20s. This is so depressingly common. I've had to clean up s*** in the weirdest places more times than I'd like to admit.

Long ago when I worked in retail, some customer basically came in (likely after a giant spicy burrito meal), hovered side saddle over the toilet and basically did an upside down volcanic eruption everywhere, the damage spanned the floor of three stalls. My boss (waiting for our cleaner) asked if I (dressed in our floor outfits, generally sport coat and slacks back the help clean it up. I noped out of that one. I do not get the depravity of some people.

Honestly, can't blame them. They've got more important s*** to clean.
