The Reddit video titled "MasterChef Canada vs US" has sparked significant discussions and debates among cooking show enthusiasts. The video highlights the stark contrasts between the Canadian and American versions of the popular cooking competition show, MasterChef. It features intense moments, particularly focusing on a contestant's struggle with hollandaise sauce and the subsequent critique by the judges.

In one notable scene, a contestant admits, "What happened? I broke my hollandaise sauce." The judge responds, "Very easy to do. Unfortunately, it's happened to you at the worst possible time." The tension escalates as another judge questions the seasoning, "Did you see the pepper? I did not put any salt in it." This interaction exemplifies the high-pressure environment of the competition.

The video has drawn a multitude of reactions from viewers. One comment notes, "The attempt to create tension with the music is painful in those shows," while another mentions, "Dramatic noise." This sentiment is echoed by another user who states, "I used to watch the show gold rush a long time ago, I was interested in the process. The show is unwatchable. It tries to pretend there is constant drama and even edits sound clips with old audio to pretend characters are fighting."

Some viewers express their disdain for the dramatic elements, with one commenting, "That’s exactly why I don’t watch reality shows… they’re just incredibly mean to people and they do it on purpose to create drama." Another user adds, "Since 2000 I can’t stand any of these narcissistic chefs. The old shows before reality TV were great."

Interestingly, many users recommend watching MasterChef Australia instead. One viewer praises, "Do yourselves a favour and seek out MasterChef Australia. Top shelf cooking, fantastic long-format season, incredible judges, and an actual budget. The celebrity chefs are all 5-star as well. It’s so far beyond the North American ones, it’s not even the same class."

The portrayal of judges also comes under scrutiny. While Joe Bastianich is criticized for his behavior, with a comment stating, "Joe has really tapered off his a******ry over the years," another user defends Gordon Ramsay, "I mean to be fair, Joe is just this insufferable a**, Gordon on the other hand only gets upset and acts like that if he knows for a fact the person fked up badly and can do much better. Gordon usually criticizes fairly and will also praise someone to heaven if you do very good."

The comparison between the Canadian and American versions of MasterChef also raises questions about editing and presentation. One user claims, "This is terribly edited to make MasterChef US look way worse than it is. I mean there are episodes where Gordon or one of the other chefs are eliminating a contestant only to then say, 'Your journey is not over, I'm offering you a position as an apprentice at one of my restaurants' or 'I'm sending you to culinary school.'"

Overall, the video "MasterChef Canada vs US" offers a compelling look at the differences in how each country's version of the show is produced and perceived. It underscores the varying approaches to creating drama and highlights the diverse opinions viewers hold about these popular cooking competitions. The discussion it has generated suggests a strong interest in how reality TV is constructed and its impact on both participants and audiences.

The attempt to create tension with the music is painful in those shows. "Dramatic noise"  I used to watch the show gold rush a long time ago, I was interested in the process. The show is unwatchable. It tries to pretend there is constant drama and even edits sound clips with old audio to pretend characters are fighting. It's so obvious as you'll never see the characters face when they are inserting sound bites. I finished with TV a long time ago

As an American, I’ve stopped watching American competition shows. They are all the same. People being horrible to one another and out for only one thing: themselves. Individuals always want to deny how the different forms of media can impact behavior and it’s awfully hard to draw any direct conclusions correlating the two, but I would bet half the value of everything I own that every last competition show had the contestants act the way they do on shows like the British Baking Show - they all root for one another and will even go help out if they have spare time! - it would have a drastic impact on society and how they treat each other! There is a commercial out there showcasing some of the elite athletes in multiple sports and it asks the question “Am I a bad person?” and then goes on to talk about how the mindset of these athletes (according to the commercial) is to utterly destroy, humiliate, and make their opponents feel inept. Yes. Yes you are a bad person if that’s the only way you can feel like “number 1”.

This is terribly editted to make Masterchef US look way worse than it is. I mean there are episodes where Gordon or one of the other chefs are eliminating a constestant only to then say. "Your journey is not over, I'm offering you a position as an apprentice at one of my restaurants" or "I'm sending you to culinary school". Masterchef US, and Masterchef in general is about taking good cooks, who might have a lack of confidence, and making them better through competition. (Hells Kitchen US is kind-of the exact opposite where over-confident chefs get broken down and shown they dont know as much as they think to run a restaurant and come out better on the other side) The Canadian edits were all from one constestant's judgement, while the US bits were all different contestants and seasons. This is an incredibly disingenuos look at the two shows.

I might actually watch this garbage if the contestants got a chance to fight the judges after a bad review
