Smelling salts have been known for their intense and immediate effects, often described as a "flash bang for your nose." A recent Reddit video titled "First time trying smelling salts****s hard" perfectly captures this phenomenon, featuring two individuals experiencing smelling salts for the first time on what appears to be a hiking trail.

The video begins with one person encouraging the other to sniff the smelling salts, switching languages mid-sentence, a clear sign of how powerful the experience is. "Läuft. Schnüffel ihn. Okay, jetzt nicht. Du musst die Nase richtig reinstecken, ne? Ne, das mach ich nicht. Schnüffel ihn." The reaction is immediate and intense, with exclamations like "Oh! S***! Ja, Alter! Funktioniert?" From there, the second person decides to give it a try, leading to similarly dramatic results.

One of the most commented aspects of the video is the unexpected switch of languages, an indicator of how disorienting the experience can be. "You know it hits hard when he switches languages lol," noted one viewer. Another user humorously questioned the choice of location, "Why did they decide to do this on a hiking trail."

The video also sparked a range of reactions and stories from viewers. One user recalled a childhood prank gone wrong involving smelling salts, "When I was thirteen or so, and my sister was ten, I had a smelling salts capsule. My sister was sleeping and I thought it would be funny to wake her up with it. Really, don’t do it. She woke up crying and panic-stricken, and it took me a half hour or so to calm her down. I’m 63 now, and I still feel bad about it."

Another comment highlighted the relatable and universal reaction to the pungent smell, "Holy hell that thing smells terrible... Dude come hit this." The video also drew comparisons to social media trends with one user labeling it as "justguysbeingdudes material."

Interestingly, the video even prompted questions about the benefits and uses of smelling salts, with one user asking, "What are the benefits of these smelling salts?" This reflects a common curiosity about the practical applications of such a strong sensory stimulant.

The reactions in the video and the ensuing comments serve as a reminder of the powerful effects of smelling salts. They are often used in sports and medical settings to rapidly restore alertness, but the intensity of the experience can be overwhelming for first-timers.

For anyone curious about trying smelling salts, this video is both a whimsical and cautionary tale. As one user succinctly put it, "Just huff ammonia and be done with it 🤣🤣." Whether for a quick jolt of energy or simply out of curiosity, the experience is unforgettable and definitely not for the faint-hearted.
