In a world where simplicity is often overlooked, the sight of a 12-page trilingual manual for a two-button remote control has sparked a blend of bewilderment and amusement online. This quirky illustration from a MattressFIRM product has become a viral sensation, prompting users to question how such a basic device requires such extensive documentation.

The image in question features a straightforward, black-and-white drawing of a rectangular remote control with rounded edges. The remote sports a small circular button at the top, possibly a power or indicator light, followed by two square buttons—one with an upward-pointing arrow and the other with a downward-pointing arrow. Below these buttons, an icon representing adjustable settings is visible. Centrally positioned on the remote is the text "MattressFIRM," with "FIRM" in a slightly larger font size. A cord extends from the bottom of the device.

At the top of the image, the text "REMOTE CONTROL USER GUIDE" is prominently displayed in bold, uppercase letters. Below it, three language options are listed: ENGLISH, ESPAÑOL, and FRANÇAIS, each preceded by a small black square.

Online commentators have had a field day with this image. One user humorously speculated, "Don't worry, once this product goes on the global market, they plan on printing 25 volumes of this instruction manual in 60+ languages." Another user offered a lighthearted linguistic twist: "English: up, down. Español: is a uppeh, is a donn. Francais: erp, dern."

The manual's length has also been a topic of discussion. A user noted, "It has 3 modes with up and down, so 7-9 possible button combinations. 3 languages so depending on the pic/font size, + any additional info like cleaning, maintenance, repair, warranty, ToS, I don’t see why the manual would not be any less than 12 pages."

Some users even delved into the practicality of such documentation. One remarked, "The rest of the guide isn’t for you, it’s for the installer. It contains all the troubleshooting codes etc. yes you don’t need more than up down but having installed this kind of equipment: I have actually read the whole manual and used the little random stuff listed that no one ever reads."

Meanwhile, other users found humor in the situation, with one commenting, "Homer didn’t need a 12-page instruction manual," and another adding, "Can’t underestimate how dumb some people can be."

This viral moment serves as a reminder of the often-overlooked complexities and humor found in everyday objects. Whether the extensive manual is seen as an overkill or a necessary precaution, it has undoubtedly provided the internet with a good laugh and a topic of lively discussion.

Edit: Woah I didnt even read the post tite. My 12 pages was a pure guess. Maybe subconsciously I saw the 12 but I genuinely guessed the book is around 12 pages based on the logic. Wow haha!

What if you turn the remote upside-down?

So if you ever wondered why the human genome contains so much non-coding “junk” DNA, consider it to be the genetic equivalent of the uninformative extra boilerplate legal disclaimers and warnings you’ll find in one of these…

12 page trilingual, so 3 page each, accounting for title page, and blank end page. One page for safety warnings as electricity is involved, and they don't want to get sued, one page of illustrated functionality, and one page of troubleshooting and contact information. Doesn't seem too unreasonable.
