Hungarian Mushroom Soup is a delightful dish that’s perfect for soup season. This creamy, flavorful soup combines the earthy richness of mushrooms with a hint of Hungarian spices, creating a comforting and satisfying meal.

### Ingredients and Preparation

The recipe for Hungarian Mushroom Soup is straightforward and requires simple ingredients that can easily be found in most kitchens:

- Butter

- Onions (about a cup, finely chopped)

- Mushrooms (sliced)

- Flour

- Milk (whole milk is recommended, but feel free to adjust based on dietary needs)

- Paprika

- Fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro for garnish

### Step-by-Step Instructions

1. **Sauté the Vegetables**: Start by melting butter in a large pot. Add the finely chopped onions and sliced mushrooms. Sauté until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are tender.

2. **Incorporate the Flour**: Add the flour to the butter, onion, and mushroom mix. Brown the mixture for a few minutes to develop a richer flavor. Make sure to let it cool slightly before adding the milk.

3. **Add the Milk**: Gradually stir in the milk to incorporate it smoothly with the other ingredients. Continue to cook the mixture until it thickens.

4. **Season with Paprika**: Add a generous amount of paprika, a staple in Hungarian cuisine, to give the soup its distinctive flavor.

5. **Simmer and Serve**: Let the soup simmer for about 30 minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro before serving.

### Tips and Tricks

- **For a Richer Mushroom Flavor**: Consider using dried mushrooms or adding a small amount of mushroom ketchup.

- **Milk Alternatives**: If whole milk is too heavy, feel free to substitute with a lighter milk or even a non-dairy option.

- **Onion and Mushroom Choices**: White onions and button mushrooms work best, but feel free to experiment with other varieties.

I'm gonna add a correction here. Don't wisk the flour and milk together. Instead, add the flour to the butter, onion, and mushroom mix. Brown for a few minutes. Let it cool, then add the milk while stirring to incorporate.

That cup b******* annoys me so much as a non american - nothing is internationally standardized in the US. if i go to the kitchen and look into the cupboard i can instantly pull out 3-4 differently sized cups, so which one should i get? I know it traditionally has developed like this in the US and if you were getting cups for cooking they're probably the same size all over the US but still, b******* system for measuring.
