A viral social media post has taken the internet by storm, sharing an unbelievably funny and sweet story of a high school dare that went hilariously off-script. The post, marked "NSFW" (Not Safe For Work), poses the provocative question: "What's the best thing that happened to you in truth or dare?"

Amassing 12.6K upvotes and 3.6K comments, the post has certainly struck a chord with many. The top comment, which has received 12 Awards, is by a user named "Lovebot_AI." Here's the captivating story in the comment:

"In high school, I was dared to play 'gay chicken', which is where two straight guys pretend to be gay, and the first one to chicken out loses. The other guy and I are both really stubborn, and neither one of us wanted to lose.

We've been married 14 years and we run a bed and breakfast in Vermont with our adopted daughter. If that dude doesn't chicken out soon, I'm going to start to suspect that he's actually gay."

This story has sparked an outpouring of reactions and shared memories from users. One commenter reminisced about a similar sketch from a Norwegian TV show where two guys play "gay chicken" all the way through to marriage and old age. Another user shared a personal anecdote from a theatre group involving a humorous encounter at a pub.

The post has also prompted discussions about how the concept works better in different formats, such as an 8-panel comic rather than a single tweet. Links to related comedic content, including sketches from "Mr. Show with Bob and David" and comics from "The Punchline is Machismo," have been shared, adding to the collective laughter.

Despite the light-hearted nature of the post, it also touches on deeper themes of love, commitment, and the unexpected paths life can take. The story of "Lovebot_AI" and their partner is a testament to the unpredictable nature of dares and the lasting bonds that can form from the most unconventional beginnings.

Whether or not the original dare was meant to be taken seriously, it has resulted in a long-lasting relationship and a loving family. This tale of "gay chicken" has become an internet sensation, reminding everyone that sometimes the best stories come from the most unexpected places.

this works much much better as an 8-panel comic than as a single tweet

As a straight man, I can confidently say no one could beat me at gay chicken

About ten years ago there was a somewhat-viral video from, I think, Norwegian TV featuring a sketch like this. Two guys play "gay chicken" and it lasts through marriage and adopting a child and into old age, until one of them dies, then the other jumps up and shouts "GAY CHICKEN!"

I used to be in a theatre group. A guy I’d never met who used to be in the group was meeting us all at the pub. I got there first, so we introduced ourselves and chatted; we’d both been told how similar we are. As a joke, he put his hand on my thigh. I looked down at it, looked at him, and slapped my hand on his, a little further north. We regarded each other for a moment, then I said “this is just gonna end with both of us with a handful of c***, isn’t it?” “…” “…” …truce?” “Truce.”
