The world of Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) is rich with memorable moments, and sometimes the most unexpected ones bring the most joy. An image circulating on social media has captured this perfectly, showing a humorous take on the experiences of new Dungeon Masters (DMs). This meme showcases a scene from a television show where a man, dressed in a superhero costume with short brown hair, looks bewildered. The text at the top of the image reads, "New DMs when they kill a PC and realize the players are still enjoying the game."

Dungeon Masters, the game leaders in tabletop role-playing games like DnD, often face the challenge of balancing the game’s drama with players' enjoyment. The term "PC" stands for player character, a character controlled by a player in the game. New DMs might expect that killing a PC would dampen the players' spirits, but as this meme humorously points out, players often continue to have fun, much to the DM's surprise.

The image has resonated with many DnD players and DMs, sparking a variety of comments and stories from the community. One user pointed out, "The thing that I've found new DMs have the most trouble grasping is 'lots of lesser opponents' is far more deadly than 'one big bad one.'" This sentiment echoes the learning curve new DMs face when managing encounters.

Another user shared their confusion, saying, "I don't get the Kenku meme... and I'm a Kenku in my DnD game." This highlights the diverse elements and inside jokes that make the DnD community unique.

The meme and the comments it inspired are a testament to the shared experiences and camaraderie found within the DnD community. It’s clear that whether through triumph or mishap, the game's true magic lies in the shared moments and stories that emerge from each session.

The thing that I've found new DMs have the most trouble grasping is "lots of lesser opponents" is far more deadly than "one big bad one." That awesome dragon you made is powerful, sure, but your entire party is wailing on it while it only gets a handful of actions each turn. Whereas when facing, say, 30 goblins, even if several of them miss or do piddly damage, the party is still being needled to death from multiple angles and split between different members.

#17 Similar but I kicked open a door to slap a woman who would not stop crying, I one-shot her by accident and had to torch the house.

A few players and DMs play to “win” D&D and they bewilder me. They do not get invited back to my table.

#2 I'm that player. But there's nothing wrong with changing the rules, it's just that people should know what they actually are (and for bonus points maybe consider the long-term ramifications of changing them).

#10 so the rogues int score now matches the players.

#8 that's why you do it to a monk or rogue, preferably one that is a high enough level to have evasion. then auto-succeed means no damage

#18 Dobby has to return to servitude just to afford his habit.

#9 I'm the player that makes the other players role play. I think it's the most fun, and once one of us starts shamelessly reveling in the story, the magic is infectious. I love seeing a DMs face light up when their campaign springs to life in the faces of their players

#18 I feel this in my soul. How many is too many dice? Trick question, there are NEVER too many dice. All those dumb math word problems in grade school when Jane Doe buys 11 watermelons or whatever absurdity should be about D&D dice. Jane bought 47 dice and gave Billy 11 then bought 62 more, how many dice does Jane have? 98 but its still not enough. Jane needs more dice, and now Billy does too.
