Girl Fieri, known on Twitter as @realgirl_fieri, recently shared a tweet that has struck a chord with parents everywhere. The tweet humorously celebrates the return of an age-old tradition among parents: convincing their children that it's bedtime simply because it's dark outside. The tweet reads, "Happy return of 'yes of course it’s bedtime see how dark it is outside' to all parents who celebrate," and has garnered numerous reactions that illustrate the universal struggle and amusement tied to this seasonal routine.

One user, reflecting on the shared experience, commented, "Tis a blessed season, though we lose the 'yes of course it's time to get up, see how light it is.'" This sentiment seems echoed by many struggling with the challenges of daylight savings and seasonal changes. Another user offered sympathy and emotional support to those dealing with Seasonal Depression, noting how the dark and cold fall/winter months can exacerbate conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

The discussion also touched on the broader impact of early darkness. One commenter humorously described the internal conflict that arises when it gets dark early: "Brain: Oh it’s dark out! No need to get anything else done today, the day is over! Me: Brain it’s 5pm. We have 4 errands and 37 house chores & to do list items, left to do this evening. Brain: NO. 😡 DAY OVER. DOING STUFF STOPS."

Interestingly, some users expressed their frustration with the constant switching between daylight saving time and standard time. A commenter pointed out the inconvenience, especially in adjusting sleep schedules and daily routines for both humans and pets, saying, "Can we just pick one and stop switching back and forth?"

The tweet also sparked a conversation about the challenges and benefits of the darker months. Some parents noted the difficulty of summer bedtimes, while others, like one user, mentioned the confusion of feeling hungry because it’s still bright outside, only to realize it’s already 9pm. Meanwhile, people who prefer darker conditions for sleep, as well as those who eagerly await the cozy, cold days of winter, chimed in with their own perspectives.

For some, as another user pointed out, the early darkness brings unique challenges, particularly for those caring for family members with dementia. They shared a poignant story of a family member getting day and night confused, leading to misunderstandings and frustration.

Despite the varied reactions, Girl Fieri's tweet has clearly resonated with many, sparking laughter, empathy, and thoughtful discussion around the impacts of seasonal changes and the humorous tactics parents employ. The tweet stands as a testament to the shared experiences that connect us all, particularly during the darker months of the year.

And I offer waves of sympathy and emotional support, to all who struggle with Seasonal Depression. And/or those who’s depression, anxiety, ptsd, etc, gets worse in the dark and cold fall/winter months. I get sad when it’s dark outside early. Plus my brain says: Brain: Oh it’s dark out! No need to get anything else done today, the day is over! Me: Brain it’s 5pm. We have 4 errands and 37 house chores & to do list items, left to do this evening. Brain: NO. 😡 DAY OVER. Summer is difficult for kids bedtime

This feels like it would be the old rod for your own back, to rely on the sun for bedtime

Can we just pick one and stop switching back and forth? now i get to adjust sleep schedules, convince the dog it isn't time for breakfast, walk, dinner, etc., and all for what? I don't care if we have permanent DST or permanent Standard Time.... just PICK ONE and stick with it.

For me, it's "Why am I so hungry, it's still bright outside, it can't be time for dinner. What, it's 9pm?"

I can't wait for fallback, and winter. I want cold and gloomy days and cozy times. One thing I will miss is being able to drive home from work in the evening and not get blinded by pairs of f***ing mini suns everywhere.

Less effective up north where I live as it's dark at 4:00pm after October
