In today's fast-paced world, many seek solace and knowledge through documentaries. However, an image circulating on Imgur has sparked a significant conversation about the mental toll of staying informed. Titled "Are we all just pretending we aren’t aware or??", the image captures a poignant sentiment that resonates with many.

The text at the top of the image reads: "When you watch documentaries to educate yourself but the more you learn, the more you hate existing in a money-hungry society that values capital over human life." This thought-provoking statement is paired with a black and white drawing of a person who appears highly stressed and frustrated. The individual's head rests in their hands, clutching their scalp, with beads of sweat visible on their forehead. Their wide-open eyes add to the distressed expression, set against a light blue background.

The image and its message have garnered various reactions from users. One user comments, "Ignorance is bliss. My desire to be informed is at odds with my desire to stay sane." This sentiment is echoed by another user who adds, "Add to that noisy neighbors, traffic jams, heatwaves and stress at work and you have a recipe for a psychiatric ward."

Some users delve deeper into the societal implications, with one stating, "Most of my debates on almost any topics related to our societies end up speaking about capitalism because it's at the center of pretty much every deep societal issue." Another user reflects on the psychological impact, noting, "I remember reading somewhere that people who see the world more realistically, who are more aware of what's going on and the actual history, are more likely to be depressed."

The conversation also touches on the role of documentaries in shaping perceptions. A user advises caution, saying, "You have to be careful with documentaries. Keep in mind who is making them and who their intended audience is." Another adds, "A good number of documentaries exaggerate their point for views."

Despite the heavy themes, some find solace in selective engagement. One user shares, "I've learnt to live in a small world. I avoid the news and just enjoy my little life with the people that I love." Another finds balance in knowledge and positivity, saying, "I watched stuff about black holes last night. I know a little more about a couple of things and found it fascinating. I can’t change the world but I can try and protect my kindness and enthusiasm for what’s good in this world."

The image and its accompanying discussion highlight a significant issue: the mental strain of staying informed in a society that often prioritizes capital over human well-being. It serves as a reminder of the importance of finding a balance between staying educated and maintaining mental health.

Add to that noisy neighbors, traffic jams, heatwaves and stress at work and you have a recipe for a psychiatric ward. That's why I watch nature and travel documentaries. In essence, nature hasn't changed its ways in thousands of years. It is somewhat reassuring that there is at least one such monumental, stable thing - free from the whims of money or people's personal ambitions. Many humans don't understand it and all they can talk about and spend their days on is work. Good riddance, I say.

Yup... That's why most of my debates on almost any topics related to our societies end up speaking about capitalism because it's at the center of pretty much every deep societal issues. But then you get tired of repeating the same thing and depressed that we're not doing anything about it. If anything, you still have uninformed people telling you capitalism is so great!

I remember reading somewhere that people who see the world more realistically, who are more aware of what's going on and the actual history, are more likely to be depressed. Which is kinda ironic, since depressed people are also supposed to see things as worse off than they actually are

Look at it this way. Death is terrifying, its a horrible ominous inevitability that has terrorized every human since the dawn of time. We've created a world that's really good at making death feel like a blessing : ) isn't that nice? No more fear!

Have a look at my climate dump. The conclusion I draw is: Currently, capitalism and consumerism is literally driving the end of civilization. Nature is absolutely about to collapse in on itself and drag us with it. This is billions dead, possibly even an extinction event in the slightly longer run, due to the carbon chock that is humanity on this planet, and historically, it took way less carbon to cause 95%+ mass extinction events. https://imgur.com/gallery/climate-dump-come-gloom-doom-OMlHflC

Watching documentaries informs oneself. In order to be educated a man needs to process the information correctly
