Don't miss out on these five essential experiences when visiting Edinburgh, UK. Each of these spots offers a unique view into the city's charm and history, making your trip unforgettable.

1. **Explore Dean Village**:

Dean Village is one of the most charming areas in Edinburgh. Unlike the more crowded tourist hotspots, Dean Village offers peace and tranquility. With its picturesque architecture and serene river walk, it’s a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. However, remember that this is a residential area, so be respectful and avoid lingering too long.

2. **Ascend Calton Hill**:

For the best 360-degree view of Edinburgh without a strenuous hike, head to Calton Hill. This spot is ideal for your first day in the city, offering a comprehensive view of the layout and helping you get your bearings. The panoramic views are breathtaking and a must-see for any visitor.

3. **Stroll Down Victoria Street**:

In the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, Victoria Street is known for its vibrant colors and historical significance. This beautiful street was the inspiration for Diagon Alley in JK Rowling's Harry Potter series. It's a must-visit for fans and those who appreciate charming architecture.

4. **Visit Stockbridge**:

Just 15 minutes from the city center, Stockbridge offers a local feel distinct from typical tourist areas. Enjoy a drink at the Bailey Bar and savor some excellent food at Scran & Scallie. Nearby, Circus Lane provides the perfect backdrop for that quintessential Edinburgh photo. While locals appreciate the area's charm, be mindful of their desire for privacy.

5. **Experience Arthur's Seat**:

Although not mentioned in the original list, Arthur's Seat is highly recommended by many visitors. This monumental hill offers spectacular views of Edinburgh, particularly at sundown. The hike is manageable, and the scenery is well worth the effort. Walking by the parliament on your way adds to the experience.

Edinburgh is a city that captivates with its beauty and historic charm. Whether you're exploring peaceful Dean Village, taking in the views from Calton Hill, or enjoying the local vibe in Stockbridge, there's something for everyone. Make sure to add these spots to your itinerary for a memorable visit.

I lived in Edinburgh for a few years and have never been to any of these places apart from Victoria street. I can also recommend 5 other places to go that give you equally great experiences. I'll definitely look them up next time I'm home.

Dean village is just some people's homes. Nice architecture and the river is a nice walk but not much to do as it is a housing area, not really a tourist attraction. If you do go there, try not to linger as the locals are less than thrilled by the growing popularity of their homes as tourist hotspots.

I spent a couple weeks in Edinburgh; hit a few of these places along the way. As good of a view as Calton Hill is, walking up Arthur's Seat and taking in the view of Edinburgh Castle and its surroundings at sundown really is a sight to behold. 10/10 way to spend an evening.

Not recommending Arthur's seat is criminal, it's so rare that cities have such a monumental hill just sitting there, offering these spectacular views with not too many tourists crowding the spot. You also get to walk by the parliament on the way there. Also, the city's not that big. You can casually walk from the castle, to Calton Hill, and Arthur's seat within 2-3 hours.

Don’t visit Stockbridge! I live here and don’t want visitors.

On behalf of a friend who lives there, Dean Village is very pretty, but it's residential, be aware of what you are taking photos of.
