In a viral tweet that has taken the internet by storm, Twitter user Cooper 🌻 (@cooperownbey) shared a revolutionary method for decluttering that has resonated with thousands. The tweet, posted on August 22, 2024, has already amassed a staggering 691K views, 1.3K reposts, 261 quotes, 25K likes, and 3.4K bookmarks.

The tweet reads: “the marie kondo “does this spark joy?” method of decluttering never worked for me, but an adhd tikt***r just changed my entire life by introducing ‘the p*** rule: if this object had p*** on it, would you wash it off, or throw it away?’”

This new approach, dubbed "the p*** rule," challenges the popular Marie Kondo method, which asks whether an item sparks joy. For many, including Cooper 🌻, the joy-sparking test falls short. Cooper 🌻 credits an ADHD TikT***r for this life-altering insight, which has become a viral sensation.

Among the reactions from users, one commented, “If you've ever owned dogs or children, chances are half your stuff has ended up with p***, puke, p***, and/or blood anyway. It's a fact of life.” Another user shared a personal anecdote about their father sifting through dog p*** to retrieve pieces of a $100 bill.

The tweet has sparked a lively discussion about the practicality and emotional burden of decluttering. Some users appreciate the straightforwardness of the "p*** rule," whereas others find it too extreme. One user mentioned, “This really depends on the material rather than the object's intrinsic value," while another humorously noted, “Ok all my toilet paper is gone... What now?”

Despite differing opinions, Cooper 🌻's tweet has undoubtedly struck a chord. The tweet's engagement metrics highlight its widespread impact: 1.3K reposts, 261 quotes, 25K likes, and 3.4K bookmarks.

Cooper 🌻's viral tweet offers a fresh perspective on decluttering, proving that sometimes, unconventional wisdom can lead to the most practical solutions. For those struggling with the clutter in their lives, the "p*** rule" might just be the answer they've been searching for.

If you've ever owned dogs or children, chances are half your stuff has ended up with p***, puke, p***, and/or blood anyway. It's a fact of life.

Guess I’m keeping my b*** plug.

FartsSmellBad

This just means that soft or fabric covered things are getting thrown away more often

The sparking joy test is entirely dependent on feeling joy, so that one is right out for me

My dad once rinsed through 3 days of dog p*** to find the pieces of a $100 bill that the dog had eaten. He then reassembled the bill like a puzzle to get a new one from the bank. He found about 85% of the bill (you only need more than 50% to get a replacement at the bank). But, as a result, my threshold for washing p*** off of things is skewed.

Things it doesn't work for: A book I like. A pair of pants I am ambivalent about. A boomerang.

Sparking joy is a stupid test, plenty of stuff is useful/practical to have that doesn't spark joy.

This really depends on the material rather than the object's intrinsic value.

The major issue I see with this is that it would mean you can never have any food in your house

I'm sorry, but there are a lot of things I would throw away instead of washing. Like if there was p*** on my bamboo cutting board. It would be done. Ashes to ashes, trash to trash. What a strange method of decluttering.
